Default Minimum requirements for hiRes graphics without being too slow

I have an old system, I suspect other have too, as

    2.8 Ghz Pentium 4
    1G RAM
    NVidia GForce FX 5200
    50G free HD Space

What's the minimum / cheapest upgrades I can do that will allow the game to run in High resolution without running like a dog. I was thinking of investing in a Radeon but I'm not sure whether that's my bottleneck or whether my power supply would cope? (I have a standard power supply and alot of stuff hanging off my computer)

Or do I need a new computer?

    Thanks

I would say the first thing you should upgrade is your graphic card.

My AMD Athlon 64 2800+ is performance rated at a 2.8GHz Pentium 4, and I cant run all medium smoothly. Even all low settings barely garners me 25FPS.

    Yes I agree.
The FX 5200 is a horrible card, trust me.
I had that card before and I was so damn happy when I got rid of it.

You definately need a better graphics card to be able to play at a decent frame rate at any resolution above 800*600. You should check out the Nvidia 7600GT since you have an AGP platform as I think it offers the best performance/value ratio. If you want to go ATI, then the 1600XT is worth a look but it is slower than the 7600GT. If you want something better, then you should probably buy a new computer and get yourself a PCIE graphics card, which are generally cheaper and offer better performance than their AGP counterparts.

    7600Gt is PCI-E only.

I'm getting that^. I hope it will be enough to get MTW II to max at 1024x768.

Thats the same card I have. Only I flashed mine to an x800XL (Unlocked the 4 dormant pipelines). I'm averaging 25FPS in the M2TW demo. My CPU is most likely the source of my poor performance.

I'm a little behind on new hardware and all the formats.. could someone in the know suggest the best current AGP card to get. I'd like to get a little more time out of my motherboard.
if that is over $300 could you suggest a good one in the $100 to $300 range

    thanks

Howdy, sorry for semi-hijacking this thread but didnt wana make new one for same sort of topic could anyone give me a quick thought on how this would run M2TW, I played Demo on mine and brother PC and well, I would rather not have to relive the memory.

So I cant get this sort of set up on a 600 pound budget

    here it goes:

    INTEL® PENTIUM® D 945 (2 X 3.4GHz) 800MHz FSB/2 x 2MB L2 Cache
    2048 MB CORSAIR DDR2 667MHz - LIFETIME WARRANTY! (2x1GB)
    256MB GEFORCE 7600GT PCI Express + DVI + TV-OUT

You're good to go. In fact, great to go I would think. High-max settings.

Seriously.! I didnt think that would run it that well.
Not that I dont have faith in you Vertical, but can anyone else back him up on that.

Damn just need my elder brother to loan me the money now can't sleep with the thought.

Argh.! So frustrating I have been wishing for a MTW stlye with better graphics since TIme COmmanders came on TV, or really since MTW released, and then even more hope when RTW came out. Just didnt think it would dynamite my PC this bad, honestly didnt know anything at all about how PC worked until this game and I had to look into new components.

    Cheerio folks

Edit: Just realised should I be trying for a SLI enabled rig or not? I heard that SLI could cause some trouble with it. Maybe not true, appreciate any feedback on that. Cheers

A conroe (core 2 duo) would do you better. Its screamingly fast in games. (New age intel chip, better than the older core duo's dispite much lower clock speeds.)

I was gonna go Duel core but to be honest it is just a little beyond my budget, = ( so I am limited that, pretty much making my decision up for me.

Probably not. Low would still be a little painful, I'd think.
