    Symposium Poll Amendment

    Author:Rolanbek

    Sponsor:

    Supporting patricians:

Changes: The inclusion of the right for clearly labeled opinion polls to be held in the (insert name of forum set aside for debate). Subject to clearly defined rules.

    The Symposium
All honoured ranks have access to the Symposium. It is primarily a place for discussion but shall also be a place where:

    • Announcement or Qualification threads are posted that involve these ranks.
    • A section is also to be used for the proposal and discussion of legislation, though no Curial votes may take place on these proposals in this forum . Any legislative proposals found here need to be sponsored by a Patrician through the Curia in order to become officially recognised. Opinion polls may be held in this forum on these subjects
      • Opinion on matters which the Curial vote has been completed
      • Opinion on current proposals in the (insert name of forum set aside for debate).
Such polls may not be used by those with Curial votes, and cannot be used to censure or bring into disrepute any individual user or body of this site

The rational behind this is that at the moment the wording of the current syntagma does not prohibit polls in the "lower House" but does state that proposals may by voted on.

In discussion on another proposal an argument was made that the intention of that proposal could be achieved by the introduction of poll to the lower house.

The presence of a poll here serves many functions:
    • To gauge the reception of current legislation within the ranks of the citizens
    • To show support for proposals within the lower house amongst the lower house
    • The non-inclusion of curial voters here (on their honour) will reduce the distraction of the lower house and shows the level of apathy within the citizen class to the current Curial activity

It appeared that at least one of the patrician class was not aware that polls were not allowed here, so I urge you to consider the lack of impact to curial affairs that this proposal will cause.

I thank you for your time

Seems logical and appropriate. I think opinion polls here would be very useful.

    I support.

Nice rule and turn of phrase.

    I too support.
The beauty of the Second Amendment is that it will not be used until they try and take it away.

Rolanbek, firstly +rep for pointing this anomaly out in a PM rather than taking advantage of it.

Secondly, I personally can't see any reason for not having polls here, as I said in the PM the Syntagma was too all-encompasing and I think your proposal is a good clarification.

If you need a Patrician to support this count me in. Only comment I have is about this bit:

Opinion on current proposals in the (symposium subforum set aside above)
    shouldn't it just say:

Opinion on current proposals in the symposium

No, because proposals don't get put in the Symposium and it conflates the two. note that this is in the Lower House; it remains useful to keep the distinction in place.

Change every reference of Symposium to Lower House and I wont hate it.
Well, if I, Belisarius, the Black Prince, and you all agree on something, I really don't think there can be any further discussion.

There are 2 references; the one Tac noted, which is a placeholder and already equivalent to "Lower House"; and this, "All honoured ranks have access to the Symposium. It is primarily a place for discussion but shall also be a place where..." which should remain.

Its a sound idea. Perhaps we should simply just turn on the polling option for the Lower House. Im not sure legislation is needed for the procedure. Along the same lines, would we need legislation to enable the ability to attach files to our posts? (in Lower House of course).
