Succession question

I was assigned an heir presumptive because my leader died before the eldest son of the heir came of age, now he's on the map as a general. If I kill the heir presumptive, will the game assign the right heir, or will it randomly choose one from the current generation?

Unfortunately, the game wont instantly change to the heir you wanted. It will be the heirs son or brother...

Doesn't matter, Poland marriage ganked him, and also got my take Prague quest cancelled by beating me there. Not sure whether to go after them now or move west to declare war on France. Shame too, he was actually my highest star commander.

It shouldn't be random, though, right? Should be selecting based on Authority?
