This must be the 1998 rains and floods in Campania that caused several mudslides and claimed the lives of many people.

    Good guess!

Here it is just known as "Sarno e Quindici", from the name of the two villages that have been destroyed by the mud avalanche. 161 were killed.

I don't care if any of you believe me, but I had a long-time plan for the event that I happen to win a round and get to post. I am going to go with Hitler visiting Mannerheim's birthday! I cannot believe my luck. Cannot blame skh1 for a bad choice, though

    So here's the next one.

The visit of Emperor Haile Selassie in Jamaica. The Rastafari movement went crazy, once their prophet/god incarnated exited the airplane.

Abdi is right! Must have been a sight to see for that guy. Not too many people get greeted as God by an Abrahamic monotheistic sect during their lifetimes. On to you.

It happened in technically Dutch territory (still Dutch today), but no Dutch were involved:

Well, this war resulted into the birth of an independent nation. Netherlands' allies won, but the Dutch lost...

My guess is the defeat of the Hessians at Trenton. But that city doesn't really look like Trenton. Could be Boston or Philadelphia though.

You found the war, but New Jersey wasn't part of the Dutch Empire. So, to recapitulate, the battle occurred in a Dutch colony, but two other rival empires were involved. The good guys won.

Sorry I didn't see the hint.

So it is the Fourth-Anglo Dutch War. The capture of Saint Eustatius by the British under Admiral Rodney. One of the most formidable naval commanders in naval history.

You are very, very, very close, but that's not the correct answer. Don't forget that the Dutch were not involved and that the good guys won and we all know who these were!

I'm not sure I follow. That is Saint Eustatius is it not? Unless you mean that it was the subsequent capture of the island by the French.

Yep, it's the recapture of the island by the French fleet. Got the British by surprise and liberated Saint Eustace relatively easily.

Hint: The guy in the picture is obviously Walt Disney.

No this is after he made a killing at the box office.

Is this Walt Disney with his wife Lillian checking into the Royal Hawaiian Hotel at Waikiki in 1939 after the success of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, which he staked his entire fortune to finance and, if the gambled had failed, would have cost him the Disney Studio and would likely have consigned him to obscurity thus rendering him not important enough to have his head frozen?

"You know… the thing" - President Joseph R. Biden, Jr., vaguely alluding to the Declaration of Independence
