    Default M2tw!

have u guys heard that the demo of M2TW is out and some people have it?
not everyone has it. only certain ppl who subscribed to a games magazine and also some other who downloaded it.

Well it is downloaded a million times now

Still I believe this is a unique game that has no rival in the known universe as we know it.

But the lack of competition creates overconfidence and from what I have seen in the demo the gameplay is again problematic and sometimes childish.

I use harsh words because my expectations for this game and this company (CA) are so many that I am dissapointed that they cannot exploit the potential of their machine to 100% and have it to ...20 % as I see it.
The machine is perfect. The overall balance seems hasty again.

Hmmm...probably not this time...I said to myself that I will use my time for money now...my hands are trembling to do it or not to do it but...my decision is almost taken.
I will buy the game enjoy it...fix it for myself in a cool and less stressing manner (if it is moddable) and maybe if I get reliefed from my upcoming duties and clear my mind which now is shaking by a mix of nurves and overanticipation which finally failed (my life matters)....will release.

I just cannot promise....it is a big decision for me because I really like this hobby and the interaction with the community...but when money comes in place and time is less you put priorities and at least do not promise.

Hey, I can't argue with that. Too bad, I'll miss your mods greatly. I hope you reconsider. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

BTW how did you find the demo in terms of gameplay? Am I the only strict?

I know those who played DarthMod can compare it better.

I didnt like it either, i didnt do anything but stand there and I won the battle of agincourt. pavins seemed confused, i couldnt really distinguish my units from the others despite using flags (which i had turned off in RTW).

not impressed but it is unfinished still i guess.

based on the demo i wont be buying.

As demos are all i have been playing recently (nazi girlfriend watches me like a hawk) i must point you in the direction of company of heroes. a great multiplayer strategy game i have to say. skirmish games are great against the ai, and the campaign map of carentan was a reall laugh too.

must download if u ask me. if only i could buy it.... but real life does call. i am powerless to resist.

    Some units animations are cartoonish:
    - the knights look like mechcommander robots
    - the ballet turn of knights around their axes when attacking
    - the boxing stance of some units
    - units are too fast moving

difficult to concentrate on battlefield tactics if the graphics is so nice
about battle AI: its scripted in the demo so no comment possible

I played only 5 minutes and went back to my little rome world :tooth:

    repman

    BareBonesWars 8.1 for RTW 1.5
Integration Mod which combines unique strategic challenges due to a 4 Season scripted campaign from 280 BC - 180 AD on several big/small maps and with an ruthless AI on the battlefield.
Deus lo Vult DLV 6.2 for MTW II Kingdoms
Norway+Ireland+Flanders+Kiev+Lithuania+Teutonic_Order+Armenia+Crusader+Georgia,1y2t script, army field costs, Ultimate AI 1.6, big map, military career, economic system, age simulation, heraldic system, new factions, garrison script, Crowns + Swords, Trait bugfixer, religion dependent recruiting, ancillary enhancements, darth battle mechanics

yeah, i tried the demo too. didnt like it too much. these r my reasons for not buying M2TW for the near future:

    1. my computer just isnt good enough. after turning off the shades, grass, and setting everything on low, i was still lagging like hardout. i can run RTW ok and play lagless with 2 full stacks on huge setting. but here,i was just lagging. not fun

    2. the camera is not like RTW. not used to it

    3. just way more interested in roman era compared to medieval

    4. too colourful, too many banners, hard to distinguish the dead from the alive. might be more realistic but hhmmm....... takes time to get used to

    5. i dont like guns

    6.i love DARTH mod

    7. im a bit lazy to go and learn about all the different types of unit again. much rather stay with what im used to which is darth. at least for now.

    8. dont have the money to buy a new computer to run the full game properly. i know it has very good graphics and i will probably buy it in the future, but not in the new future at least.

    9. going overseas on a holiday for about 2 months soon so i wont be playing any games

by the way, darth, if u dont mind me asking, whats ur occupation? just thought to ask since u were mentioning money. is it sth to do with computer stuff since u seem quite good at it or its just game modding? hehehehe
everyone will miss u if u start coming here less and less!

    @Shaggy1973:

As you say, as a demo is a promotion failure comparing with the potential of the game. If there was not all the forum feedback and one show it for the first time he would say...OMG what are these graphics and later.....so what!

I know the game you propose to me and I intent to try it.

    @repman:

    Some units animations are cartoonish:
True but some are very good to be frank.

    - the knights look like mechcommander robots
lol good one but I still like the heavy duty appearance they have..they mean serious damage in terms of looks.
    - the ballet turn of knights around their axes when attacking
This is as you say a ballet (how they say it in English ...dancing with the swans..oh no the lake of the swans or smthg)
    - the boxing stance of some units
Yes, in the start I did not see it, overwhelmed with the general graphic beauty, but now I am certain they used TEKKEN actors to motion capture this madness.
    - units are too fast moving
They are feeling better than RTW default though...still maybe they need some toning down as you say.

Obviously the demo is showing to us the general policy lifted for the game..visuals 80% and the rest gameplay. But still I am anxious to see the final outcome...at least if they hear us now they can catch up with some annoying issues to correct.

    @Persian Horseman:

    1. my computer just isnt good enough. after turning off the shades, grass, and setting everything on low, i was still lagging like hardout. i can run RTW ok and play lagless with 2 full stacks on huge setting. but here,i was just lagging. not fun
Try disabling the shaders completely and you will see 50% improvement. But you say you did so ...too bad but we cannot blame them for that..they produced a graphic beauty and I think overally it behaves very well for the graphics involved.

    2. the camera is not like RTW. not used to it
Yes ..maybe it is slightly different in angle but the mechanics are same though.

    3. just way more interested in roman era compared to medieval
    I love both eras equally

    5. i dont like guns
I LOVE ancient gunpowder (I like the effect of all men to be sychronized waiting for the commander to shout...FIRE...and then the domino of first row deaths occur...

    6.i love DARTH mod
    7. im a bit lazy to go and learn about all the different types of unit again. much rather stay with what im used to which is darth. at least for now.
Ha...I like the Darth dark power flowing into you..although for me it is a challenge to learn the mechanics of a game from the start (zero)

    8. dont have the money to buy a new computer to run the full game properly. i know it has very good graphics and i will probably buy it in the future, but not in the new future at least.
I am about to buy a super computer anyways so...this could benchmark it but as you say a lot will find it difficult.

    9. going overseas on a holiday for about 2 months soon so i wont be playing any games
I will be busy with other things but...I will like to fill my wasted/free time with ..MTW2 pc game...I am a little (a lot a lot do not hear me) overwhelmed with the series.

by the way, darth, if u dont mind me asking, whats ur occupation? just thought to ask since u were mentioning money. is it sth to do with computer stuff since u seem quite good at it or its just game modding? hehehehe
everyone will miss u if u start coming here less and less!
Being for years in the textile business ,family business, some time spent in the bank business,...dropped them out and preparing for more creative things in Greece or outside Greece..probably at the end of this month all will be decided.

A risk taken for my life to do jobs that fit my creative mind.

I would love to come here as often as possible and will depend on my time and mood for MTW2 discussion.Modding is a different thing.

A last statement is the following....

CA has to understand that games can be easily played without being bought.....
What makes a person to buy it is the long playability, MP challenge and lasting quality of gaming.

If the game success is depended from a fresh kick start marketing and then from a modder's personal adjustment it is sad..because a lot of people..millions will have their hands on the game and the copies of the game itself bought will be only thousands

They deserve more than they do.

If money is your problem darth I think the community is very pleased to donate something if there is a good result.
After the Med 2 demo I have the same opinion as you guys, games just not good enough they should spend more time making games these days.
I played SPQR a lot where the battles are long and not finished after 2 Minutes. They just die to fast (in meleecombat). Attacking with cav from behind should be more effective (they die nearly as fast as from the front)

from medieval 1 to rome the jump was big. form rome to medieval 2 its only big from the graphics.

hope the strategic mode is better. but who cares the best playing expirince is alwasy with mods isnt it?

I mostly agree on what was said about MTW 2 demo gameplay, soon as I tested it I returned playing RTW, no way... I prefer a good gameplay piece like DM than good graphics with a lot of lag and crap.

    @Rammstein:
It would be out of the topic if I had to discuss this here and now. It is about my new philosophy about modding and helping the community which came out after some very disturbing attitude I received....only the community (you and all others) hold me in place to serve it...I just lack the energy right now.

And as you say...your last statement and as I have checked it is the majority who believes that (at least the energetic forum readers who post)...many will buy the game with the safety that whatever flaw there is to the game ..it will be fixed with the valuable help of volunteer modding...would you think the same or bought the game if you were un-sure?

    @Narakir:

I am very eager to play this game, no doubt. But as you say, gameplay is the most important. This is what makes it last and creates the feel for the player that his money count. It creates as they say in marketing 'loyal customers' eager to follow and buy products despite any rumours, because they lived the safe experience of the past.
But it is common nowadays (I lived it in bank business) to produce kick start marketings just to hold for some time, or steal a customer from the opponent to buy as much as possible and then after he will surely retire or have problems...just before he lives you do the anti-attrition (patches, modding etc.)
You preserve him in the buying net with frequent vaxines to tone him up....
This marketing project used by the ...gurus will fail in the process globally.

All the companies which understand this (in every genre) will become leaders in the future .(My opinion of course)

So by reading this small general quote of mine above you get indirectly my opinion of the matter.

My cpu went so that ment going back to old motherboard and ram so until i get a new computer (1 month) no medieval for me. what a time for that to go the day before the demo is released. i think you have all got to remember this is a demo and is just to give a little taste of the game. the final product will probably be amazing but im not even able to try the demo now so i wouldnt no what your saying lol.
