Medieval 2 Total war gold edition, kingdoms getting unspecified error.
Hi, first off, i would like to say that i've lurked this forum for many years and have always found it helpful and entertaining.
I have a copy of m2tw from Amazon, that i have previously had no problems with.
However recently i tried switching from the SS mod, to Cow, and wanted to switch back again, which resulted in me receiving the unspecified error upon trying to run kingdoms and after multiple reinstalls is still presenting me with the same error. The base game runs perfectly.
my specs are,
Windows 8 64b
Intel i7 4700 mq 2.40ghz
Intel hd graphics 4600
also included dxdiag, thank you for any help you can provide.

If it worked once it can again but it will take effort on your part to learn about how Windows handles this old game.
Have you disabled the nuisance UAC?
Have you taken ownership of C: drive?
Have you installed the game outside Program Files and Program Files (x86)?
After uninstalling and before reinstalling, did you delete all traces of the game and run a good free registry cleaner?

UAC is dissabled.
I am not sure how to take ownership of a drive for windows 8, the articles on the subject say c: will make it unstable,
the steps on how to do it safely would be appreciated. I put the install folder directly on my desktop for ease of access,
and would ccleaner qualify as being a registry cleaner? i've run that multiple times without a change in the outcome.

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials...ndows-8-a.html is one I just pulled off Google.
Becoming unstable only if you love doing things out of the norm like trying to re-engineer Windows itself. Leave their stuff to them and no problems.
Registry cleaner, many recommend CCleaner.

Did you delete two Medieval II Total War folders? If you installed in the default folder with the UAC enabled, there will be a second one.
Then, you are down to learning how to use regedit. Set yourself a system Restore point first. Search for things like sega, medieval, kingdoms, official, unofficial, ss6.3, ss6.3, ss63, ss 63. I did not upgrade to Win 8 but Win 7 64bit, there are some i and others have had to find this way.

Indeed i did. I've searched the c drive on windows explorer using the search-bar,
made sure that the only files i find are from the M2TW:G installation files and turned off UAC.
i've read that you can simply create a new profile with admin rights and it clears up any issues, is there some
truth to that?

Did you unhide all files, folders, and drives in Folder Options before searching? Many things like Medieval2's folder are hidden.
I have not tried a new user profile and set it as Admin but I think it should work.
