    Default Re: Annexing the Westmarch

After several weeks of hard travel across the fields of the southern Reach in the middle of summer sun, the Army of House Hightower finally met the Westmarch Army of House Tarly before a great knoll in the province of Darkdell. The Hightower host numbered nearly ten thousand men, hardy sons from the lands Honeywine River or the weathered islanders from the Arbor. Each and every man had come faithfully to serve in King Triston’s endeavor and they were all prepared to do their duty and serve their noble King. The Westmarch army was just as formidable as all good Reachmen should be and they stood ready to defend their homes from these invaders who were hungry for their land.

As the two armies slowly formed into battle lines opposite each other, Prince Rolland Hightower and his two brothers rode across the field with a small contingent of their heavy horse to parlay with the Westmarch commanders. Rolland had been instructed to avoid battle if it was possible and he had an idea of how to do it. As they reached the midpoint between the two armies, Pricne Rolland took his helmet off and said
“To the Lords of the Westmarch. I am Prince Rolland Hightower, Marshal of Oldtown and the Commandant of this Army. We all know why I have come here today. My father wants the Westmarch to be added to his realm and he intends to take it with force if necessary.”

He paused for a moment to allow this thought to sink in before he continued and said “As you can clearly see my lords, my army outnumbers yours almost two to one. Lay down your arms and submit to House Hightower so that no one has to lose their life on this field today. Surrender my Lords, and my father will be willing to give you the hand of one of my sisters in marriage to one of you noble Lords as well as tribute of 30,000 Dragons that we will send to you once the new year comes. What say you Lords of the Westmarch, will you submit to the Hightower or shall this field become fed with the blood of dying men.”

OOC: Can I have a roll for submission please If it helps, my King has +5 loyalty but my Prince who is here does not have any loyalty.

Commander Traits if battle commences with the following strategy.
    Prince Rolland Hightower -
    + 2 Survival, +2 Siege Battles, +2 Field Battles, +2 Duels
    Prince Loras Hightower -
    +2 Survival, +2 Field Battles, +1 Income, +1 Duels
    Prince Tommen Hightower -
+1 Survival, +1 Field Battles, +1 Duels, 1 Unspent Point

Orders for one flank to simplify things:
    - Archers target advancing infantry
    - Cavalry attack the other cavalry and then flank
    - Infantry fight it out.

    For surrender need 1/20
Roll: 6/20 -3 (half of King Hightower's Loyalty skill rounded up) = 3/20
*Halved because he's not personally here*

    ------------------------------------------------------

The banner of the huntsman flowing behind him, the man who is presumably Lord Tarly tilts his head slightly, glances around at the field below their horses, and answers,
"You will not cross this field today, nor tomorrow. Huntsmen cannot bow to men who don't do their own hunting."

    1,755 Heavy Infantry
    1,125 Polearms

    1,440 Archers
    990 Light Cavalry

    Battle
    Skirmishing
    Oldtown Archery vs Westmarch Infantry
    Oldtown: 1,440 * 6/10 +2 = 11,520
    Westmarch: 4,365 * 5/10 = 21,825

The Westmarch infantry take minimum damage.

    ( 11,520 / 21,825 ) * 3330. Dead capped at 15%. 499 men die.

    Westmarch Archery vs Oldtown Infantry
    Westmarch: 765 * 10/10 = 7,650
    Oldtown: 9,158 * 7/10 +2 = 82,422

The Oldtown infantry take minimum damage.
    (7,650 / 82,422) * 6840. Dead capped at 15%. 634 men die.
    Cavalry Fight
    Oldtown: 2880 * 5/10 +2 = 20,160

    Westmarch: 1575 * 1/10 = 1,575

The Oldtown cavalry overpowers the Westmarch cavalry.
    Oldtown Deaths: ( 1,575 / 20,160 ) * 1,620. Dead capped at 15%. 127 deaths.
    Westmarch Deaths: ( 20,160 / 1575 ) * 855. Dead capped at 25%, so 214 deaths.

    1,544 Heavy Infantry
    914 Polearms
    Flanking
    926 Light Cavalry
    567 Heavy Cavalry

    Westmarch
    1858 Light Infantry
    599 Heavy Infantry
    374 Polearms

    Oldtown: 10,654 * 7/10 +2 = 95,886Westmarch: 4,216 * 9/10 = 37,944

The Westmarch infantry block is surrounded and beaten into a rout.
    Oldtown Deaths: (37,944 / 95,886 ) * 6206 (infantry only). Dead capped at 15%, so 931 deaths.
    Westmarch Deaths: (95,886 / 37,944 ) * 2831. Dead capped at 25%. 708 deaths.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Rout

Roll d10*5% for routing enemy troop deaths. If the enemy army has 10,000 men when it routs and 8 is rolled, 8*5% = 40%, or 4,000 men killed in the rout.

    Westmarch has no reserve.
    10/10 *5% = 50%.
Westmarch's host loses another 50%, and is under 2,000 in number.
    Result
Lord Tarly surrenders, and Westmarch is now sworn to King Hightower.

    3,437 Light Infantry
    1,234 Heavy Infantry
    604 Polearms
