Default Invasion of the Red Watch

From Storm's End slowly a host starts a long march, headed by a determined King.

Stonehelm and the Swanns have long guarded the river mouths into the Stormlands' heart, but news of trouble in the Iron Islands, mere whispers, have arrived to the Storm King's ears, who forcefully deviated his atention from the Riverlands and set his eyes in the South. Tague Kings had suddenly disappeared, and was rumoured in the Shipbreaker Bay that a new dinasty rose. However Agemund could not risk his domain leaving such a river under another King's control, and such calls his banners and marches from Storm's End, southwards, ready to submit the proud Swanns once for all. The Golden banners with the Stag dance in the sunlight while the thunderous drums awake the forests' beasts. Ours is the fury!

Few days of march and the Storm King's Host would arrive to Stonehelm. The army marched in organized ranks, at least the heaviest troops did so, with the levied peasantry in a more disorganized and chaotic mass, with whores, bards and other filthy companions. Agemund rode at the head of the army, sorrounded by his mounted knights, the elite, clad in mail hauberk, kite and round oaken shields, nasal helms. Agemund wore a magnificent mail hauberk, down to the knees, with a silken robe underneath. His nasal helm is crowned by a golden circlet. A heavy sword, a magnificent crafted weapon, laid in his scabbard, made of black velvet. His shield had an iron hand painted, just like the one that fastened his cloack.
Above Agemund's head dances the stag, black on gold, proud, made of delicate silk.
Next to him Dondarrion was clad in leather and mail, in a dornish blood steed, fast and agile, clear contrast with the heavy, menacing and powerful black stallion. Argilac, the Price wore a mail hauberk as his father's, but his nasal helm had a bronze circlet, less ornate like his father's. He wielded a mace and a sword.

The river was wider and wider, they were close to the mouth, and to the fortress that protected it, Stonehelm, the mighty keep of the Swann.

"Duncan, send the scouts ahead, with word to Lord Swann, I'll give him a day to either submit or to face us in the battlefielf, where he will be soundly defeated. If he bends the knee his belongings will not be threatened, nor his status, but he has to swear fealty to me, and recognize me as his ruler. Shall he refuse I'll slew him, and find someone more suitable to ocupy the ancient throne of Stonehelm"

"Well, he is outnumbered, two to one, he should submit, or will soon be trampled in the dust. Want me to lead the scouts?"

"Nah! Send someone we can trust as emissary, maybe Lord Connington or Galemont, they will suffice. I want you by my side. And sound the horns, every peasant, knight and Lord will know the Storm King marches to war, that will inspire fear into their hearts"

Horses swiftly rode ahead of the host, heading to Stonehelm.

Little before dawn the riders arrived to Stonehelm, and were led to the Lord's solar, under the black and white swann they delivered their message, to bend the knee or face the Storm King at the battlefield, what would Lord Theodomore Swann choose?

    Submission Rolls:

A standard 1/20 chance for submission with a a being the only way that they will submit. This roll can be boosted by the loyalty trait of your King but since you don't have any, I shall allow one-half the points of the loyalty of your other two characters to apply. The final roll is 3/20.

Your roll was a 4 (so close), so Lord Swann of Stonehelm refuses to surrender.

I will need your battle orders Oz. Once I get them, I will will roll the battle.

ooc: *Sight* I'm always unfortunate with dices??

    Durrendon's host orders:

    LI: 3000
    HI: 1200
    P: 500
    A: 1000
    LC: 800
    HC: 500
    -----------
    7,000 soldiers

Center: King Agemund: +4 Field Battles
600 Heavy Infantry, 1,200 light infantry, 600 archers, 500 heavy cavalry.
-Agemund orders a full attack on Swann's forces. The heavy infantry will be the core of the advancing line, supported by 600 hundred light infantry, 300 on each side and other 600 to cover the gaps. The six hundred archers will try to thin the enemy's ranks by their superior numbers before the charge of the heavy infantry. Agemund will wait with his heavy knights, ready to profit from a gap in their ranks, if so they will do a full charge. Agemund's cavalry will also wait to support one of the flanks if they waver, either the right or the left one.

    Right: Dondarrion: +3 Field Battles
900 Ligh Infantry, 300 heavy infantry, 200 archers, 800 levy cavalry.
Their objetive; support the center in breaking their battle line, by defeating the enemy's left. The 800 levy cavalry, led by Dondarrion will try to either flank the enemy, or harass their rear.

    Left: Argilac: +2 Field Battles
900 Light Infantry, 300 heavy infantry, 500 polearms, 200 archers.
Same as the right flank, but as they lack cavalry the polearms will cover the flank and rear from cavalry charges.

Agemund unhorsed. Sorrounded by his winded bodyguard.

Before him was the corpse of Lord Swann, pierced a thousand times, nearly beheaded but still recognizable by the black and white wings in his helm. Agemund was bleeding, he had received a sword cut by one of Swann's retainers in the arm. Nearby laid more Swanns.

"Well, now Stonehelms is ours, lads, rejoice. But bury the deaths, us and theirs. And prepare Swann's body, he will rejoin his ancestors in Stonehelm"

Dondarrion arrived, covered in other's blood:"My King!"

    "How many have died, Duncan?"

"Scarcely a tenth of our forces your Grace, but the whole enemy host has been cut or hunted down"

"Good, they fought bravely, and now their banner is trampled on dust and blood. If they had surrendered... Thanks Gods! Thanks them for their blessings!"

He looks the corpse, broken Lord, once proud, of Stonehelm:

"Fool, your pride was your doom"

"Send riders to Stonehelm and find out how many Swann remain, and who they are"

"Your Grace, it shall be done"Duncan leaves and Agemund looks his foe's corpse, pensative.

    Fool...

I'm not really sure how to do your requested roll, so I'm just going to do a simple 10/20 roll, with 1-10 meaning that there is an unmarried relative available and 11-20 meaning that there are no unmarried relatives of Lord Swann available.

Rolled a 10, so there is a relative of Lord Swann available for marriage.

    "Your Grace!"

The riders returned, but escorting a litter. Agemund was waiting before his pabillion, still in mail, but without the helm, crowned with the antlered crown, drinking from a golden goblet while one of his attendants was bandaging his wound in the arm. Dondarrio stood nearby, armoured, and speaking with his King. Argilac was talking next to his father with some of his retainers, as Connington and Tarth.

"What happened? What have you found, Selmy?"

"My King, we found someone still in Stonehelm, Lord Swann's eldest daughter Eleanei"

The litter's courtains opened and a fair lady, with light brow hair and green eyes, wearing a white gown, get out of it. One of Durrendon's men carried a chest that he left in the grass before the King's feet, who opened it with a kick. Inside, in a velvet bed laid a weirwood and ebony crown, with swans carved, delicate and proud.

    "Duncan, kneel"

    "My King...?"

"It's time for a Lord to have a lordship on his own"

    "But..."

    "Kneel"

He kneeled, while one of Agemund's retainer gives his master the Swann's wooden circlet. Agemund unsheathed his sword and touched both of Dondarrion's shoulders:

"Today I name you Lord of Stonehelm and it's vassals, to rule this lands in my name and on my behalf. Also I grant you the hand Eleanei Swann, last scion of her house, who you shall marry to carry on her legacy and domain over these lands. Swear eternal fealty and loyalty, Lord Duncan Dondarrion Swann of Stonehelm, marshal of Storm's End, Swift Footed, my nephew, my vassal"

"I swear fealty to the one and only King in the Stormlands, Agemund Dondarrion and I recognize his rule over this lands, accepting Lady Eleanei's hand in marriage, as your Grace wishes. Long life Agemund, the First of His Name. This I swear with blood, bones and flesh"

    Agemund then crowns Dondarrion.

    "So be it, rise"

He rose from his knees. Agemund offered him his hand, which he kissed, then both man kissed eachother cheek. Agemund grabs the terrified Swann's hand and joined it with Dondarrion's:

"Shall Gods bless thy both, my child"

    -------------

The Stonehelm vassals, mauled by the Storm King in battle and fearful bent the knee eagerly. Agemund bestowed upon them presents and mercy. Dondarrion married in Stonehelm's sept, under the gaze of the Seven, with Eleanei Swann, and both were recognized as rulers of the Red Watch and all its walls. Since the crowned stag dances in the Swann's keep with the two swanns and the purple thunder.

Now the absolute domination of the Stormlands was closer, and thanks to Longward, that will become a reality soon enough.

While Agemund rode North, with the banners high and a new High Lord in his entourage he was smiling.
