    Duskendale
    Duskendale
The town spreads out around the harbor and has cobbled streets. South of the town is a rocky headland that shelters the harbor from the storms of the narrow sea and north of it rise chalk cliffs. A road runs beside the shore between the sea and low limestone hills. Fishing villages dot the road for miles. The castle that overlooks the port is known as the Dun Fort. It is a squat square stone castle with big drum towers of House Valdun.

    House Valdun

    House Valdun of Duskendale
Vassals, house Darry of Darry, house Crabb of the Whispers
Sigil - A black hawk on a field of golden scales

    "A screech at twilight"

House Valdun's founder was the Andal master archer Dun who landed with his fleet in the Bay of Claws some 700 years ago. Dun defeated the local Riverlander First Men and sacked the town of Maidenpool, defeating different Magnars and Petty Kings. One day he suffered a terrible defeat and was forced all the way back to the coast, where a small valley town rested. The town was luckily a Andal colony and they took in Dun and his remaining knights.

The small valley town was soon besieged by a band of bloodthirsty First Men, from both the Trident, God's Eye and Cracklaw Point. But after a fortnight, when the heathens had drunk themselves on ale and was preparing for night, a hawk screeched as the sun sat. The besieging camp was attacked by ser Dun and 200 knights, who sent the First Men fleeing back to their keeps. Dun proclaimed himself king of the valley town, which was henceforth known as Duskendale.

The surrounding First Men kingdoms would soon learn to fear the Valley Duns, who often brought fire and death to their homes, as sudden as a hawk coming from the clouds. In time, the Valley Duns, now known as Valduns had conquered the surrounding lands and stretched as far as to the Trident estuary, which would serve as their border for years to come. King Jorah Valdun was the one to finally integrate the Cracklaw lords by marrying one of their daughters. Jorah was king of Duskendale at it's greatest expansion, when its lands surrounded the Gods Eye and touched the Blackwater Rush.

Jorah's son, Ruldolf saw the Valdun Kingdom fall into chaos as revolts surged in the lands and half the territory of the Valduns were lost, along with many dynasty members who were murdered in their keeps. Ruldolf would spend his entire life fighting these rebels until he fell in battle. The Valduns surrendered and were once again at peace. Ruldfolf's son, Hyle the second of his name led an army through Cracklaw Point and together with the guidance of house Crabb managed to burn or subjugate every valley. Hyle the second of his name died when he was preparing to unleash a campaign against Rosby.

King Hyle Valdun, third of his name
High Lord of Duskendale and Guardian of the Quiet Isle

Hyle Valdun is the great grandson of Jorah Valdun, the man who saw the Valdun power at it's climax. Hyle is in his forties, and has been growing his power everyday. He's an ambitious man, like every other lord in the Sunset Kingdoms. He plans on spreading the Valdun influence far over Westeros. Perhaps even to the very edges of it.

A raven arrives, with a sigil in the seal; a stag, crowned.

To King Hyle Valdun of Duskendale:

Gods be witness of this and grant us their most precious blessings. King Valdun, I, King Argemund I, son of the Storm and the Thunder, Lord of Durran's Defiance, send word asking for trade and friendship between our realms, that lay well removed from eachother, no frontiers shared, or blood feuds existing. In exchange of thy oils and scents, to offer the all-mighty Gods of above and delight their nostrils, we offer our mail hauberks, shining like silver and strong like sea wyrms scales, the finest thy can see.

    Shall they bless thy,

King Argemund, the First of His Name, Storm King, Goodseed, Lord of Shipbreaker Bay, Iron Hand.

    A Raven:

    King Hyle Valdun of Duskendale,

We have gold, and you have valuable oils. We seek import of your oils for our use and are prepared to pay in this most valuable and precious of metals. You will see your incomes rise from the trade we offer and from the added value the gold will give your currencies.
