Default CTD with stormy weather on battle map

I've noticed that my SS 6.4 game crashes to the desktop with 100% frequency whenever I play a battle that has stormy weather, with heavy rain and lightning. Light rain is okay, but heavy rain means the game will always crash. I'd share the details of a crash report to give you further info, but unfortunately all I get is a stupid "unspecific error" message.

I'm playing the game on a Windows 7 partitioned hard drive via Boot Camp Assistant on MacBook, if that helps at all. Is there an easy patch fix for this?

That is graphics related without a doubt, adjust your settings to a lower level

That's odd; I've got it running on default settings (or best detected settings for my computer). What exactly should I kick down? The bloom? Unit detail? Building textures? Vegetation?

Mind you, it only crashes after I conclude the battle with victory, click the √ check button on the scroll, and the campaign map tries to load. The entire battle plays out until the end. Does that still sound like a graphics issue to you?
