CTD on entering battle

I have not played M2 in a long time and just reinstalled the game. I CTD every time I enter a battle. Any ideas?

Have you unpacked the game and forgot to delete somethings?

Nope. Game is not unpacked and the only modification I have made is to make all factions playable (Not Mongols, Timurids, Rebs or Aztecs).

I noticed however, that when I play mods, battles work fine.

I don't know why then. Can you start a campaign in vanilla?

Yes. I'm only having issues with vanilla. Kingdoms and Kingdoms mods work fine.

Aha. I discovered the issue! Apparently, I never deleted the game files in the Virtual Store. The Virtual Store contained the unpacked files from when I ran the unpacker a long time ago. For whatever reason, these files appear to still affect the game. After deleting the descr_geography_new files it worked!

Alright. I may try to move M2 out of Program Files.

When I found out about this security stuff Microsoft added when Vista was released, reinstalled outside Program Files and Program Files (x86) and no more virtual store problems for Medieval2.
