I agree. In fact I'm surprised the Old Ways even survived 300 years of Targaryen rule. I mean sure, there were times when raiding and human sacrifice took place (probably during civil wars and such), but it seems like the Targaryens would have kept a tight lid on that sort of thing.
Yeah, this is really easy to fix and yes, it cal be really annoying.
I am not sure about how this works, but please make it so that the pikemen have no secondary weapon. If I remember correctly then this should prevent them from prematurely swapping weapons and becoming effectively useless. I know this was a huge pain with Arryn in KoRaH, and I really refuse to use them in battles because they lose their only real perk. Harlbards don't have this problem as far as i know.
Many thanks to the good folks down at the Graphics Workshop for the sig.
Perfect then. As for unit ideas I think a Dragonstone unit would add some flavor to things. Perhaps they could use halbards or be very strong men at arms with a unique look?

That seems kind of silly to me, not a bad idea, but an un-founded one. Stannis is very limited as far as men go, he has few lords, and had to hire sell swords to augment his thin ranks. There isn't really a mention of any such unit existing, but such is the case with most of these units so far regardless. Hmm
Then think of it as more of a household guard. From my point of view Dragonstone is a critical stronghold that is also a melting point of many cultures. We know from the beginning that it was used as an outpost, and so it most likely had a garrison of professional soldiers to guard it. As time went on the Targaryens came to hold it and it is known that Aegon landed one Westeros with 1,600 men. While I am sure a few of them were sellswords and such, many were probably the retainers of the nobles on the islands. Since most came from full or at least partial Valyrian descent I would think that they would hold a little bit to how their ancestors fought and even though they might not be specialized troops, they would be unique to any other Westerosi men. And since the islands are small, training would be heavily scrutinized by the Lord.
That is my 2 cents. I am sure if what I said above was true, it would be a bit more similar to the other lords of Westeros than Aegon's time. However, Loras did have a very hard time taking the castle when only a few men held it. So as I said before, they at least were well trained. And it isn't like this is Third Age, where everything has to be completely canon.

For now I probably won't include a Dragonstone-specific unit as the one I made is rather armature (my first unit after all). I am, however, working on some interesting Targaryen units for Robert's Rebellion which I may later re-purpose as Dragonstone Guards.
Also, after some additional reaserch, I am changing my "Drowned Men" into "Drowned God's Chosen". I think this makes more sense for the feel I'm going for with the unit. My initial resistance to changing it was based on the fact I didn't do my research to begin with and was hesitant to throw away my work once they were almost done.

In FaB I added in some pretty cool dragon stone guards, more to make Dragonstone an interesting settlement to capture.
I like the sound of changing the Drowned Men.... Btw, are you aware that drowned men already existed in several submods as a bodyguard unit?
New preview up, enjoy!
BTW: I always post previews in the OP, but do you guys want them in the comments (other people post here sometimes)?
Cool! Cool,cool cool!![]()
