    Default TATW Tag Team Hotseat

    TATW Tag Team Hotseat

Description: TATW games usually fall into one of two categories: 1) good vs. evil, where you cooperate with multiple factions, or 2) free-for-all, where even when you cooperate with someone, you always know in the back of your mind that you will need to fight them eventually. I thought it might be interesting to play a game where you and one other player are allied from start to finish. You must win or lose together. And hopefully we’ll get some unusual alliances and enemies in the process.

    Map

    Factions

    Team 1:
    Gondor: joerock22
    Harad: Chieftain Khuzaymah

    Team 2:
    Mordor:
    Rhun:

    Team 3:
    Dwarves:
    Dale:

    Team 4:
    SE:
    OOTMM:

    Team 5:
    Isengard:

Note – due to balancing issues, Rohan is turned rebel and Isengard is a stand-alone faction.

    Rules

    Tag Team Rules:

    • The objective of each team is to win the game together
    • Factions on the same team may never go to war with each other for any reason
    • A faction may never form an alliance with a faction from another team. This means you can fight battles alongside your teammate, but may never aid another team in battle
    • You are allowed to remain neutral with other teams, maintain trade rights, etc. – just no alliances

The rest of the rules can be added later.

In making this post, I have the following goals:

    • See whether there is any interest in this tag-team concept
    • Get input from other players on game balancing and team forming
    • For example, I would love to include both Rohan and Isengard, but I do not see how it can be done while maintaining balance. It is extremely difficult to balance these teams, and I would love any input you guys might have

If there isn’t enough interest in the tag-team concept, or it proves too difficult to balance, I will convert this hotseat to a standard 10-faction game including all the factions shown (plus Rohan). It would not be good vs. evil. Feel free to voice your opinion as to which type of game you might prefer.

I think the tag-team option adds a very interesting dynamic. For some extra flavour, teams could be randomly drawn and/or randomly assigned to the faction teams you have created in the post.

I think from a balance point of view the teams you have created will work. It's tough to make well balanced teams with so many unique factions.

How is it that Isengard can stand alone against everyone? The combined strength of Mordor and Rhun is more than enough to mop the floor with Isengard. That being said, I am taking Isengard.

That is possible if you prefer that. Joe and me preferred to take Gondor and Harad because we feel this team will have the greatest challenge to survive in the first place.

I think your choice speaks for itself Isengard has no direct enemies and can freely expand into lands of Rohan and then attack Gondor in the back or whatever Isengard wants to do. In any case, the strength of Isengard can grow without interference of other factions while the other factions are fighting each other. With Rohan AND Isengard in a team, they would still face no enemies but Gondor in the south. Then Gondor will have to face Isengard, Rohan and Mordor attacking all from different fronts.

Just an idea to throw out there and see what people think. Having a random teammate means possibly working with someone new and that adds an extra dimension of unpredictability. Could be fun, or challenging

Khuzaymah and Joe on the same team, we know who's gonna win this hotseat! I don't really care what faction i get, just not Mordor or Dale or SE please.
