Republicans Using Fake Websites To Trick Donors Is Just The Start
Ray Bellamy, a doctor based in Florida, decided that he wanted to make a donation in a local congressional race. He began by Googling the Democratic candidate’s name, “Alex Sink.” He then clicked on one of the first results that popped up. A page loaded that that had the candidate’s typical designs, color schemes, and even a large photo of her talking to constituents. Not thinking anything of it he entered his financial information and hit submit. What he didn’t notice was the small print at the bottom of the screen.

He was then notified that his donation had actually gone to her opponent – as he explained to Tampa Bay Times, he had been the victim of an elaborate scheme by National Republican Congressional Committee to trick voters into donating money to the wrong party.

It turns out that the political organization has purchased over a dozen domain names of Democratic candidates up for election and set up real-looking-but-fake websites.......

    Brilliant!

Very clever. The Democrats will complain about it, like always, but if they really are the right people to govern, they would be smarter than this.

Yeah, there's nothing fraudulent about creating a site like JoeBlowforsenate.com and then having the site be against Joe Blow and for his opponent.

My point exactly. There's no fraud here. Thanks for agreeing.

Isn't there some clause that insists small print has to be large enough to be read, and clear enough to be understood; or is that only a requirement with my penis pump?

Isn't there some simple procedure to follow BEFORE you enter financial information on the web? A domain name and a dozen pics of someone and a DOCTOR says hellz ya, plz take mahy monies!!1!! He's lucky he has any money left.

I hope he doesn't have a guildwars account.

"Make a contribution today to help defeat Alex Sink and candidates like her."

Not sure how that could be any less obvious. While it may be misleading, anybody that read the medium-large text above the donations would know the donations would not go to M(r)s. Sink. I do find the whole thing appalling, but the Republicans did nothing wrong.

Its not surprising a doctor who donates to the democrats didn't properly read a web site.

Reminds me of the butterfly ballot. It is too much to expect of your average democrat voter to execute an action that requires an iota of thought.

Here is one of those "fake" sites

Democrats hide your heads in shame at your stupid voters.

Classic republican response in this thread.

Excuse the despicable actions by their own party because the plebeians are easily fooled and should have known better.

I've got $20 that most of them have also said "Well she shouldn't have been dressed like that" before.

I'm not sure how this is "despicable" because the sites seem clearly to state exactly what they are for. What I think this is, is a plant type of story where the democrats can claim the Republicans are evil and obviously it must be serious because it fooled some "doctor" and doctors are smart people.

I thought democrats were trying to claim to be the smart people these days

Now, you know as well as I do that Democrats would be nowhere without a lot of really stupid people who've been conditioned into pulling a lever solely because of the letter after their name.

Zero difference between these two corporatist parties - they both serve the big business cartels. The Bush Admin was a gift for the military industrial complex; and Obama is mana from heaven for the Banksters and insurance industry. Heck, I'm a so-called "progressive" and even I must admit that Saintly JFK was just another corporatist (if you take a closer look at his policies and actions). Both parties are the same and both play the same game. And it is the way most of our flawed democracies work - money talks.

If you seriously cannot tell that there's a difference between Sarah Palin and say Andrew Cuomo, you really, really, shouldn't be talking about American politics.

So here's my question for you: Is there any difference between the views of Sarah Palin and Andrew Cuomo?
