Can we wait a bit to see if he'll take over Rome? He said he would play last night but apparently he didn't have time.
The turn was important to the Justice Society of the Mediterranean Sea and the future of Europe. Evil must be destroyed. (Legourou is obviously TheSpectre)

Isn't this considered a bug? Such a retreat by attacking the unit with 3 men?
This situation happens when you defeat the first army before the second enters on the battlefield. Its dodgy but you shouldnt have left the leftovers there.

Certainly seems like a dirty move. Why have 3 men alone next to your army? I mean just disband the 3 man unit lol
Logically speaking in a RL situation Samar's force of 839 men would never have retreated simply because 2 men were killed before they arrived to the field of battle. To me this is a clear exploit of the auto resolve mechanic, and without this dirty tactic it is doubtful Makakula's forces would have won. Never mind forcing Samar's army to retreat to a boat simply to be sunk. To me there isn't much more of a clear cut example of exploitation of game mechanics than this.
How someone could be pleased with themselves after gaining such a victory I can not understand.
This is an old trick and people use it often in hotseats. In RL that could happen in next way: Dionysos wasn't prepared for being attacked ( his army was tired after fighting the Gauls), so after carthaginian forces have faced his scouts he decided to retreat to his fleet. But he didn't know about carthaginian fleet located in Utica, and that costed him his life.
Also that's not an exploit, because army wasn't destroyed or even harmed after the battle, it has simply retreated. The only fault of Samar was keeping very weak fleet near to his faction leader.

This is not an accurate example of what happened in game. You are comparing Samar's 3 men to Dionysos scouts. Samar wasn't using them to scout. Also Samar did not decide to retreat to his boats, you forced his army to move to the boats by exploiting a fault in the auto resolve mechanic.
Now there is no doubt that someone experienced with cheap tactics like this could/would certainly take precautions to avoid this situation. Its just a shame people have to spend time worrying about how people are going to exploit game mechanics and how to best avoid it. Personally I tend to lean towards honest play rather than doing whatever I possibly can to squeak out a win.
Certainly a exploit rule to be included in future HotSeats tho, so thnx for that at least![]()
Well, these guys were staying separately from main army, and 1 of them was alive after battle as you can on screenshot. So maybe after these 3 men were attacked, 1 of them went to Dionysos and told about incoming carthaginian forces, and after that Syracusian leader decided to retreat.
I don't know why do you consider knowledge of some tricks as something dishonest. Also I've never counted this as a bug or even as exploit, once or twice this thing was used against me and this was ok for me.
You can add every simple trick to the list of banned, but this will cause to new problems. F.e. what if player won't be able to get any other kind of victory? Or if he won't have enough movement points to get to the main enemy army?
Merchant stacks dun hurt anyone either, or infinite unit pools, surrounding armies, or movement bugs, or stealing generals to lift sieges or...
It can all be explained to some degree as logical and "harmless" in itself, but do you really want to go down that slope Makakula?
Not that my opinion matter here, but is this how you want to beat him? Clearly he was unaware of this even being possible.

Do you consider stealing generals to lift siege as a bug? Srsly?
Maybe he was unaware. But we love hotseats for surprises they bring in our life.
If I were Syracusian player, I would never have left my army in such a vulnerable position. Some things Samar could do to avoid this situation:
1)Simply disband these 3 units.
2)Build a fort
3)Leave stronger fleet near the coast
4)Don't leave any fleet near the coast, so army could retreat somewhere else.
But Goddess of Luck and God of Holy Random were on my side this time.
Yes, the general appearing outside the army triggers a bugg causing the siege to be lifted. Just like defeating anything next to an army sieging / defeated army retreating there. If hte siegeing army has multiple generals tho, this does not trigger for stealing generals afaik.
Why would it not be a bug? Do you think it makes sense that an entire stack stops besieging because its leader abandons them or that it is an intended mechanic?Like that player was surprised by all my money from my merchant stack, or being swarmed by all the units I should not have been able to recruit let allone afford to recruit.
Or my army appearing far away from where it is supposed to be, or marching straight across his fortwall - ignoring ZoC.
Or he should have known that a siege won/lost next to another automatically breaks any siege, or that the engine thinks it is sieging what it's not.
Yes, he should have expected it - I was luckey his forces ( or simulated physics ) were asleep at the wheel so I could do these things.I find it unreasonable.
