    Default Renaming Cities

Two questions actually. Is renaming cities possible in EB (if so, how?) and is it save game compatible?

I asked this question, some years ago, I wished to change some Seleukid cities to their dynastic names. Anyway long story short no, because it might corrupt script

Aghhh, that's sad. Pyrrhopolis sounded promising.

You can do it in other heavily scripted Medieval II mods (Third Age TW springs to mind) so I would imagine that is true.

I often rename captured cities and have never run into an noticeable issues because of it. As an example, in my current campaign I role played the death of most of the Epeirote royal family in it's wars with Roma and Makedonia, then had Helenos flee by boat with a rag tag arm and seize Massalia. I proceeded to conquer northern Italy from the Romans and renamed the cities according to those indicated by the Strabo geographical information quotes. I'm now at 190ish BC with no problems. I do this in all my Hellenic/Hellenistic campaigns. If you go through the text files you will notice that in-game city names and internal ones don't always match anyway. As an example Roma is simply Rome in the text files, likewise Syrakousai is simply Syracuse. I never observed any problems from renaming cities in game.

Well it cannot hurt to try can it, especially if one keeps a backup! By the way your campaign sounds interesting, a touch Homeric

I guess it is a touch. I do a lot of those sort of campaigns nowadays (I've completed all the regular campaigns multiple times). I also love uniting gaul and Briton under the Aedui or Arverni and then going all colonial lol Last campaign of that ilk I held Gaul, Britain, Syria, Egypt, India, parts of Arabia, the Crimea and all of the Mediterranean islands with the Aedui. I don't use the blacksmith in game, as I see no real need for it, so I modded the build tree to represent a colony to draw the backbone of my professional forces (Neitos) and supplimented them with locals, as well as shipping in reinforcements for my Brihentin, Carnute Cingetos and Solduros from northern Italy. I think it's the most entertaining campaign I've ever had, hard as hell keeping all those disparate settlements under control, but so much fun. I've done the same with the Casse also, but that was a bit harder relying on Milnaht as my "professional" core.

It must be great to see such possibilities in campaigns.
I just cannot allow the campaign to drift too far from history!! Drives me nuts a bit OCD even if I see something being played out ahistorically the otherside of the campaign map- I have to intervene.
So I usually attempt to play out same series of campaigns, editing and modding here and there in an attempt to get some semblance of history. Keeps me out of trouble

To each their own I guess. As much as I love history I can't play historically. Would Mean intentionally losing near enough every campaign (all my favourite factions were historically defeated) lol.

I often do let myself get defeated to a point. I suppose after a while it would turn ahistorical but I've never really completed a campaign
