Default Will it be possible to mod almost everything involved with archery?

I make this thread because this is something that bugs me a lot in Rome 2 and takes away from the fun of skirmishing for me. When I play Shogun 2, or even old games like Rome 1, Med 2, I find archery to be infinitely more fun/satisfying.

I miss how in Shogun 2 you could see the whole volley clearly fly through the air in synchronous fashion, how you could hear the arrows being shot in a very clear way, how the arrows themselves were larger and you could see the individual shots much more clearly.
I miss how deadly the sound was when it would pierce armour and clatter of metal and leather.

I look at the archery in Rome 2 and it's just so poorly executed. Arrows fly in bizarre patterns. A unit NEVER looses a volley in Rome 1/Med2/Shogun 2 style. Why? Why are the associate sounds so pathetic and why is there such a large amount of attentuation when it comes to missile fire in general (and a lot of sounds in this game if I am honest...)

So will all these things be moddable? I really want to have some fun playing out and watching some skirmishes but right now it just doesn't feel right to me.

well there's a mod already on steam called deadlier arrows which makes them much more deaedly without making them op in my opinion. Parthia actually kicks some ass now and Cretan archers are rightfully feared. As for the animations one can only hope

I know there are mods for stuff like that, but alas, I am not talking about the actual missile damage itself.

You missed the point. He is not talking about damage.

I'm pretty sure what makes Rome II arrows less satisfying is the physics. You are right; in previous games, minus Empire/Napoleon obviously, arrows sorta flew up together, paused as they reached the fulcrum and then plunged down into their targets. Rome II's archers do not fire in proper volleys. They're also somewhat more stupid; you can't trust them to pick their own targets. The physics themselves are way, way too fast and with less arc... they may as well be a musket.

And I'm pretty sure the physics aren't completely moddable.

    EDIT

Just realised I did that a rather silly way.

Well technically, you can. Go to projectiles_tables and lower the muzzle velocity of all arrows (for slower flight speed) and increase the max_elevation (for more of an arc).

Max_elevation is already completely isolated from arc. The current arc only rises ~20m for 150m range. Even firing at 45 degrees, current projectile velocity is not enough to hit that limit.

Assuming no drag, the minimum projectile velocity you could use and still have 150m range is 38.7m/s. The 45m/s used by default is good out past 200m (again, assuming no drag. Is there a drag model?), which is probably why it was chosen.

SO TRUE!!! The arrow volleys in this excuse of a Total War game is just plain awkward...
You could really feel that the arrows were packing a punch in RTW and S2TW..but now, the arrows fly in awkward directions and are not synchronized.

Yes. you're right. You can really feel the arrows in all previous games, while in Rome 2 it's just sporadic shots here and there - like a spaceship battle. I could always see the arrow bite, especially in shogun 2. It was really majestic to watch all the arrows at once in one smooth move. Another missing great feature.....

Well I'm glad to see others are at least on the same page as me about this.

On a related note, If i say get 5 Archer companies to fire on 1 target at once, or have a large amount of men throw javs at same time, My sound goes nuts trying to play the sounds ca put in, for a bout 2 seconds then goes back to normal.

Its like it puts the impact volume up by 300% for 1 second

Hmm, never had that happen to me. Could it be a driver issue?

i'm not sure which game it was Empire or Napoleon, but in one of them they've actually updated the sound, which was really an amazing improvement for the whole battlefield atmosphere. yea, Rome could need such a makeover too, not only for archers. i doubt this is high up on their priority list though

I've recently begun a shogun 2 campaign. Why couldn't they make arrows fly like that??? Isn't it the same engine? I can play shogun 2 on maximum settings, and it looks way more polished than rome 2... - Go Otomo cannons!

As I've been attempting to put gunpowder back in the game, I've been able to completely level out the elevation for slingshot. They now fly in a straight line and lose velocity about 150 meters out. I assume by reversing this process one could get a slightly better experience with arrows.
