    Default Roma Surrectum Info

    Hello,

I been away for far to long.
    Here are some quick questions.

    1. Is this still the most active mod here in the eras section? I have to admit I find more enjoying playing this game than Rome Total war 2.
    2. I'm sure this has been answered. Has the Dev team said anything about making a mod for RTW 2?
    3. Does anyone here like RTW 2?

Well as long as their is some activity I am happy.

That guide now is considered ancient and I think I need to do a whole new one.
What do you think was missing from that guide?

In a galaxy far far away.... HEHEHE with all kidding aside.

I can still see that this is the best mod for RTW. Always has always will.

I know that RTW2 modding ability is limited as in the norm these days the CA and Steam and Sega. But I want to ask if the Dev team has any sort of plans to continue with RTW 2 modding?
If this has already been answered then point me to the right thread, I don't want to anger anyone here..

I am a peaceful forum writer and do not wish to anger the Dev team. I think some of the Dev team remembers me.

Nah. Most of the team aren't around, it's mainly dvk who's still at the mod nowadays. He has decided that, seeing as he has little experience with the R2 engine, along with too little time and/or inclination to learn to mod it (along with a general distaste with Rome 2), that he'll keep on with Roma Surrectum.

There's a thread stickied at the top of the page called RS2's Future and Mod Idea's, that should give you a general summary of what's planned.

    Welcome back !
I really don't think they will do something for Rome II given the fact that the engine is WAYYY diferent.

Guess I should answer as well. RomeII, even if it was a finely tuned product, is unsuited to what we did with RS2. The biggest issues are the lack of cities (and total lack of common sense regarding cities), the lack of a family tree and the importance of Generals, Governors, the political systems.....and all the things that just make you sort of 'attach yourself' to the game. Last, the lack of a sensible building tree, and the economics that is related to what you build and where....all of these things go together to make RomeII an engine that is unsuitable for what I want for RS2. It's just such a different animal, and disappointing in many ways...but that's just the way it is.

As far as RS2 is concerned, I see enough life in here in spite of RomeII to be convinced that RTW\M2TW are not dead yet. There are many, many beautiful mods I have never had time to see or play, and I think everyone would benefit from trying them. For RS2, although I'm pretty much working on it alone now, I have been gathering ideas and player input....testing and exploring new possibilities, and fully intend to continue supporting and refining it.

Some things and ideas I have been exploring:

    1. Changing the way the Romans recruit Legions, and how the Reforms occur. This will be done with new buildings, new configurations of units, and getting rid of the old RTW 'Marian Reforms' event altogether. Everything will be pretty much player controlled in terms of when a Reform happens, so that if you like the old Republican units you can play the whole game with them if you wish...or generic Legionaries, or the named and numbered versions.

    2. I have already tested and found a way to prevent Barbarian and Nomadic cultures from upgrading settlements to the point where a Greek or Roman player cannot 'Romanize' or 'Hellenize' them. It'll need a bit more polish, but I know already that I can do it.

    3. I have just recently succeeded in modfoldering a Barbarian Invasion mod into RS2....which means that RS2 is not, and will no longer be restricted to the Republican and early Empire. The possibilities here are pretty endless in terms of what periods could be covered.....pretty much up to the one I dearly want to cover someday...Emperor Justinian's attempt to retake the entire Empire.

I think that in terms of game play, the most interesting times to play would be those when the Empire was fractured and\or simply gobbled up by Barbarian opposition....and even if the end result isn't all that historical, it would be fun to retake the West, or fight the Gallic Empire, or create a new Empire with the Romans of Britain, and so forth.

Having all these options in one place would also be a nice thing.....so I'm hoping still to provide what I call 'DFC'....Downloadable Free Content.

And, I am slowly but surely fixing all the little bugs people have pointed out. I just don't have a lot of time, and there is only only me.

Well this is great news to hear.

You bring up an interesting time period in my opinion for the romans.

In the BI expansion their are a crap load of things that can be done.

    Just off my head.

    1. The Romans being completely and utterly brought to their knees will be an awesome concept in which RS players and beat back the barbarian filth.
    2. That whole horde concept in BI was something I always liked.
    3. For RS being always in love with the legions of Rome, these legions of the late period are something totally different than the legions of the early empire. To be honest they are less trained not as experienced and not as effective as before. No more of the classical image of the legions, these men were time and time again defeated and routed.
I would even think to make them smaller in numbers as if I can remember the legions of the late period were never in full strength and were always being filled in by barbarian units.
    4. Obviously the barbarians will need a lot of attention. Or just simply make them always outnumber the romans 3 to 1 or more and

    5. You mention covering the era of Justinian taking back the empire. That is awesome as this is a pure eastern empire re-take so it will all be eastern legions.
    6. What about also covering the romans defeating the hunsat the battle of chalons. This was a massive campaign.
    7. The romans will have to pay tribute to the barbarians to prevent attacks and you have to balance economy and army.
    8. Maybe go a little fantasy and have the western and eastern romans go to war. Good old fashion civil war while fighting off barbarians.
