7900 GTO Overclocked is 7900 GTX

Hey all, my 7900 GTO will arrive in a couple of days and since I dont know anything
about overclocking Ive been browsing the net and found something interesting:

So I wondered if I could use that file to overclock my 7900 GTO, mine is the same MSI 7900 GTO.
Could anyone with that same card just overclock it (with that file) to the 7900 GTX standards?

I don't know much about overclocking GPU's myself (in fact I've only heard it), but I think that it may require a better cooling system, preferrably also more quieter :wink:

I read a test with 3 quite cooling systems, and the one that is recommended is Revoltec Graphic Freezer Pro, available at 26€ (probably around 26$, and under 20£). When the tested 1900XTX was 89,13 degrees with the default cooling, sometimes the noise was 68,9db! (Well, this is Ati, so don't he surprised :wink: ) With Revoltec, it was only at 80,50 degrees and 37,8db (12 volt).

I would advice to get Rivatuner to overclock GPU. I have used it to overclock my secondary computer GPU without any problems.

Remember to be careful with overclocking your GPU and make small changes each time.

Also remember that hardware warranty stops immediatly when you decide to overclock them, something that many people doesn't know.

For starters, you won't need to overclock that card at all. If you're unfamiliar with OC'ng, I wouldn't bother making this high-end card your guinea pig. Secondly, each GTO will be different. They are essentially GTXs that do not work reliably at GTX speeds/voltages for whatever reason. They are underlcocked and undervolted, and have a GTO sticker slapped on them. Regardless, they are still very good cards, and OC'ng them will not net you any noticeable gain in games.

The GTO is inbetween the GT and GTX in both speed and price. I have heard that the GTO's will give you somewhere around 50mhz core headroom for overclocking, but every sample is different. Either way I just bought one, as it was a much better deal then the 7950GT. The file you are refering to is the nvidia 'coolbits' registry hack, it just tells the nvidia control panel to display the clock frequency slider. If you are going to attempt this, watch the temperature very carefully and go up in steps of no more then 5mhz and throttle back if you start to notice artifacts or instability. Also be aware, this totally voids your warrenty in any and all forms.
