One thing I am really impressed at in this game and hope it shows up in TES 6 is the racial armors and weapons. I don't know about the rest of you but I checked out every single high level race/class/sex combination on the character creation screen at least twice.

I don't get the free to play love.

Free to play is why MMO's are garbage. Under that model they MUST continue to make money somehow and thats going to be, sooner or later, usually sooner, OP items, free levels, perks, etc, they basically HAVE to.

I'd rather pay what I see as a reasonable fee for my entertainment. Hell I'm going out to a party tomorrow which will cost me in one night a years subscription fee once all is said and done.

While I don't mind a monthly subscription, $15 is a little much. Hell, do it for $5 or $10 and you might be able to keep a player base and not have to focus on micro-transactions.

Im happy to know that you can go to a +200euros party, but after purchase a full price game I think that is to much pay 15 euros monthly.I hope that Relic don't charge 10 cents for each online match.

Apples and oranges. Maintaining an MMO isn't like playing a match. The only reason you SEE free MMO's is because people end up paying MORE to play via the micro transactions. This doesn't help people, its screws them. I didn't even get interest in ESO until I heard it wasn't free to play. I've seen too many FTP games lately just go to as they chase the next toy for you to buy while nerfing the ones you bought (which were OP so you would buy them). Its screwing online gaming.

100% agree. Online gaming is getting destroyed by this entitled ME generation. A good mmo isn't a buy to play one with a cash shop, or a free to play one that shoves advertisements down your throat or pretty much entices you to buy things. Paying the monthly fee and earning everything in game is the best way to go. Any other way is a game compensating for poor gameplay with an increased player base. If you want your game taken seriously, you go pay to play.
Enough with the DLC. Fix your game.

For the record This game will have Cash shop. And it will probably be F2P down the road ( sooner then later)
Its pretty much the standard MMO, one more in a sea of them.

I think you are right but more because I don't see this one overly succeeding at this point and out of desperation they will go that route. It won't help though.

In all seriousness (no sarcasm or Zenimax hate, etc. etc.), when do you guys think ESO will go F2P? I'm not overly familiar with MMOs and definitely not up to speed on the latest trends in the genre, so I haven't the slightest inclination as to whether this might happen in 6 months or 6 years.

Im just saying cash shop was already confirmed i think, for what im not sure, regardless, all those stuff shouldnt stop one from enjoying a game. As long the servers arent empty. That is the most Game breaker for an MMO.

Default Eldar scrolls online beta review

With the launch of ESO coming up, I used the last beta weekend to extensively play test the game and make a decisions at to if it is worth buying or not. With the standard pre order pack at £50 and the monthly subscription at £10 it is one of the most expensive MMOs out there. In my mind the debate as to if whether the sub model is a good thing largely depends on what they do with all the money they make.

Before the beta weekend, I did plenty or reading of others opinions so had the preconception that the PvE content would be largely disappointing but the PvP would be amazing.

I’ll start by talking about the graphics which I found to be better than I had expected after watching you tube videos. The general aesthetic is one of low fantasy compared to most MMOs which is refreshing after all the crazy particle effects of guild wars 2. I did however experience several graphical bugs in the PvP zone; keep doors and sometimes whole wall sections didn’t render.

I experienced the PvE content up to level 10. The content that I saw was in the theme park style of going to a location, do the quest arc there then move on the next much like in a traditional MMO. Although I think this a slightly stale paradigm, the quests were well written and often involved some kind or moral choice at the end. I don’t know if these choices make a difference to anything later on but I felt this really added to the RPG aspect of the game.

The major problem with the PVE content I saw was an alarming number of bugs and broken quest chains. If these problems persist at launch then there will be a lot of angry players. I did not see any of the private dungeons or raids and so can’t comment on them. The public dungeons seemed ok, but were a little bit zergy.

The scope of the PvP zone was big and some of the sieges were impressive, but after having played in some large planetside 2 battles, I would not say I was blown away by it. I did enjoy what I saw but it seemed to me that to get the most out of it one would have to be part of an organised group.

Being level 10 put me at a big disadvantage to others that had played the beta longer. When this game matures a little, it might be difficult to get started in PvP without spending a very long time preparing in PvE.

Because the battles have such a large scale, they don’t feel so much pressure to fine tune the class balance. However, I felt that melee combat was a little weak and 90% of the players were running around with bows and staves.

I found the combat mechanics for PvE to be quite fun and player skill could make a big difference to the outcome of a fight. In PvP I found it a bit floaty with people running around everywhere and no collision detection between players. There was also significant lag on occasions especially when trying to use keep doors which frustratingly either didn’t let you through when the enemy horde of baring down on you or let you through then put you back outside a couple of seconds later. All of this contributed to making melee combat ineffective compared to ranged.

Despite playing a lot over the weekend, I did not feel I had enough PvP experience to be certain how it will play out over time. Maybe there will be a use for melee for organised groups of players and if the lag problems go away it would definitely be a better experience.

In the end I did decide to pre order a copy. I enjoyed the PvE a lot more than I thought I would and although I wasn’t blown away by the PvP, it seemed good enough. I also really like playing MMOs at launch. There are bugs to contend with but everything is a level playing field and all sorts of craziness can happen in PvP when people don’t all know the most efficient method of playing.

These are just my thoughts from what I have seen and since I consider myself relatively unbiased, it might be useful to read if you were thinking about buying this game. I would be interested in reading the experiences of other players, especially if it differs from my own.

I've played in 3 or 4 beta's myself, though exclusively in PvE. I think you described it well. Broken questlines (many, frustratingly, bugged in the final stage) are a bit of a concern. Nevertheless, the gameplay itself kept me going and looking forward to the next session and in the long run that's what counts. Another thing worth mentioning, especially compared to single player elder scrolls games, is that ESO seems designed to make you want to specialise. The upgrades to abilities you already have are usually more attractive than opening op new skill lines, and then there's the matter of only having 6 quick slots for active abilities. Quick switing between primary and secondary weapon is unlocked at level 15, by which time you're likely to have developed a strong preference. Crafting is also pretty specialised work. You just won't get any good at it doing it on the side and for that reason I suspect many players will just not bother with learning even one.

I think the subscription cost is fair, but the initial purchase is quite expensive.
