Default Chambers of the Master of Coin

Here you can find Lord Ormond Westerling, Master of Coin, when he is on the capital, at the service of his Grace, Aegon the Fifth of His Name.

    Lord Ormond Westerling

Titles: Lord of the Crag, Master of Coin to King Aegon V

    Born in 179 AL (55)
Status: Widowed; Alice Tarbeck (born 178 AL, died 234 AL), children: Kevan Westerling (born 206 AL), Sybill Westerling (born 210 AL), Margery Westerling (born 213 AL), Jeyne Westerling (215 AL)

    Traits (20):
    +5 Income, +5 Survival, +3 Siege Battles, +3 Counterspy, +4 Field Battles

Biography: Lord Ormond in his prime was a skilled jouster and duelist, but an accident (some say it was intentional) in a tourney let him with a limpness that turned him unable to be a fine swordsman again. However he has a long experience in the battlefield as a commander, and has followed the Lord of the Rock in all his enterprises, with unwavering loyalty. He is a proficient administrator but Ormond seems to be unable to stop his house's decay, and their economic situation is worsening with every generation. Nowadays they can't claim to be the second wealthiest House, a place that Reynes and Leffords usurped long ago. However their pride and legacy is intact. To make the situation even worse he has four daughters whose dowry he must afford, somehow...

Now he has a chance to recover the past glory of his House, as he was named Master of Coin by the King Aegon the Fifth.

He was eating a turkey, with a magnificent garrisson and Arbor Gold. With a most voracious appetite (that surely was the reason behind his great belly). On the table laid a heavy golden necklace, with joined coins, one of each Targaryen King, the badge of his office.

He wipes some sauce from his mouth and moustache:

"Regards! I am Lord Ormond Westerling, with who do I have the pleasure to speak with? An Ironborn Lord, doesn't it?"

His wife, was also there, eating slowly, drinking Red Dornish wine.

    "Ah! My wife, Lady Alice"

Lord Stannis entered, nodding to Lord Westerling and his wife when they greet him. He looked quickly at the large golden necklace, his fingers itching for the dirk in his belt. He was almost tempted to slay the Master of Coin then and there so he could pay the iron price for the treasure. He didn't though, out of respect for his new position.

"I am Stannis Harlaw, the new Master of Ships. I hoped we could talk about the fleet I'm supposed to build for King Aegon. I need to know how much money I'll get for the task. The upkeep is a bigger concern than the construction costs for me. To my experience, that's what really eats up coins."

Ironborn... The Crag knew very well the Ironborn... All remembered the raids during Aerys' reign, Ormond specially well because one of his cousins was killed, and the uncle of his wife. They were but scum, pirates, raiders, mere peasants.

"Welcome to King's Landing, Lord Harlaw"

"The King has decided he has no coin to afford ten Narrow Sea galleons, but only half that number. He realized how expensive could be such comissions. You will receive thirty thousand dragons for your enterprise"

"What? Does he expect me to build a fleet with only that much gold? You can't do anything with five ships, most lords can levy triple that amount in no time. Maybe it's enough for an Ironborn reaving, but not for what's supposed to be the king's own fleet!"

"The King will not invest a single coin more, mayhaps he will in the future, but for now it's enough. We want five proud and powerful galleons. That's all. The King's desires are orders, and you have to carry them, Lord Harlaw. Take the golden dragons or leave them, you choose"

    "Farewell"

    He starts eating again

Stannis burst out of the room without saying goodbye. That damn Westerling, who did he think he was? All of the westerlanders were the same, egotistical gold bastards, the lot of them.

A few men-at-arms of Lord Matthos Gaunt arrive at the Master of Coin's office with the tax money for the year 234 AL. The total money is 1,000 Dragons from Lord Gaunt's personal vault with another 100 Dragons being paid by Lord Gaunt's vassals for a total of 1,100 Dragons tax to the King. They leave them to Master of Coin's Guards before they depart.

A chest arrives from House Stark with the proper task, 875 Dragons.
"We all know whatmy brother would do. Robert would gallop up to the gates of Winterfell alone, break them with his warhammer, and ride through the rubble to slay Roose Bolton with his left hand and the Bastard with his right. I am not Robert. But we will march, and we will free Winterfell … or die in the attempt."
