Default Office of Ser Edmyn Lannister, Lord Commander of the Goldcloaks

Here is the office of Ser Edmyn Lannister, the Lord Commander of the Goldcloaks. Here visitors may ask for an audience with the Lord Commander. His office is guarded by ten Goldcloaks who stand at the entrance of the Lord Commander's office with five men flanking each side of the door. Inside, the office lades directly to a small hall guarded by an additional ten Goldcloaks with five men on either side of the hall. At the end of the Hall lies the desk of the Lord Commander. Behind the desk lies a door that leads to the private chambers of the Lord Commander where he sleeps.

Two weeks after the coronation of King Aegon V Targaryen, Ser Edmyn Lannister, “the Claws of the Rock”, arrived at the main barracks of the Goldcloaks to officially takeover as the new Lord Commander of the Goldcloaks. His first order of business was to perform an inspection of the men who made up the capital city’s protection force in order to determine their level of training and their level of discipline. Perhaps because he was spoiled by the rigid discipline, training, and equipment of the Lannisport City Watch, what he found in his inspection of the Goldcloaks greatly disappointed him.

Out of the five thousand men that made up the Goldcloaks of King’s Landing, only one fifth of them, a mere one thousand men, could be counted on to hold their ground in a prolonged engagement and not rout instantly at the first sign of danger. The rest of the men were in despicable shape and they could barely be counted on to man their post eighty percent of them let alone be trusted to hold a line of battle even for just a few minutes. Most of these lesser men were nothing old men and young boys, most likely from Flea Bottom and King’s Landing’s other slums, who only joined the City Watch to escape the rampant poverty and hunger that plagued the capital’s poorer districts. A difficult task lay ahead for Ser Edymn Lannister in his attempts to improve the Goldcloaks. It would be a long hard road for him to follow but hopefully given some time and a lot of money, these men could be turned from mere rabble into real soldiers.

After being disarmed, the Master of Coin is allowed into the Lord Commander's office. "Lord Westerling, what can I do for you today? Do you have need of my Goldcloaks?"

Disarmed? Unnecessary! I'm Lord Ormond Westerling, Gods' sakes, I know this youngling since his birth...

"Actually, yes, Ser Edmyn. Also I am glad to see a scion of my liege's House in the capital"

    He coughs
"I need a escort of Goldcloacks. I'm going to collect the King's new taxes, and my guardsmen aren't enough to repel an attack if bandits or rebellious lordlings decide to take the King's gold. Such I'm in need of your support, Ser"

"Then I am afraid that you have come to the wrong place Lord Westerling. I cannot just simply lend you some my Goldcloaks just so that you may have an increased escort when you travel throughout Westeros to collect the King's taxes. That is not our job Lord Ormund. The Goldcloaks are here to serve King's Landing as its protectors and wardens. No where in our job description does it say that we are to move around to help the Master of Coin collect taxes Lord Ormund, even if those taxes happen to be the King's own taxes." said Ser Edmyn casually.

"Only the Master of Coin, the man who is technically my superior, may order my Goldcloaks to perform a different task. I suggest that you speak with him first Lord Ormund. If he gives his approval, then I will lend you a few of my men to help escort you."

Lord Ormond is tempted to crush the youngling's head with his heavy golden cane. The silver shell in the pommel would turn his eye into jelly, and his brains would be all around the table... Sigh... What has happenned with the youth I used to know? Now, only vain, arrogant and narrow minded remain. How great we were before the Spring Sickness, valiant! chivalrious! glorious! The old King ruled with wisdom, and with wise Hands, like Lord Hayford, or his son Baelor. Now they are only scattered ashes of a forgotten time.

    He coughs...

I expected more from a Lion of the Rock... Maybe he's just the stupid bureaucrat type of lad.

"I will speak with Lord Baratheon then, Ser. I came on the King's behalf, to carry a royal enterprise, but maybe it's too comfortable to sit behind a desk, moving around tiny pewter soldiers. Honourability and good will has vanished like dust it seems. It was a good chance for the Goldcloacks to be useful but...Farewell"

Lord Westerling rises from his seat, and leaves, with his heavy badge of office around the neck. He joins his guardsmen outside and walks angrily to where Lord Baratheon is.

    Stupid youngling...

Hits the floor with his cane.

I should have broken his head... Yes I should...

His guards see how angered is their Lord and follow him quietly.

OOC: I think you may be overestimating what the Lord Commander of the Goldcloaks can do Oz. While he can command them to do anything that he wishes within the city walls, he has no power to actually send them outside of the city. Only the Master of the Laws and King as well as potentially the Hand can send them outside of the city's gates.

Our own game rules clearly state this under the Small Council Powers.

"I bid you farewell Lord Westerling. I hope to see you soon with permission from the Master of Laws. Otherwise, I am powerless to help you." said Ser Edmyn while ignoring the insult. "Idiot fool. The Goldcloaks are not your personal escort around the realm. you're the Master of Coin, surely you can requisition a few thousand Dragons for a proper escort.
