Default The Coronation of Aegon Targaryen

The Coronation came three days after the conclusion of the council Aegon Targaryen was dressed in his finest armor, and a sword hung at his side. He would identify with Maekar as much as possible - a strong, military minded king who would keep law and order with his own hand. It meant that men of administrative talents would be needed to fill in the gaps of governance, men that Aegon hopes to hand pick from among his loyal supporters. He did not forget the whispers that reached his ears of the unwillingness of the Reach lords to support his claim. They would bend the knee or pay dearly for their treason. Still, there were other things to accomplish today.

ooc: Thought I'd keep the ball rolling on RP. We'll take several days here to slow things down a bit.

Lord Ronnel Bolton had made the arduous trip from the Dreadfort in record time. On the one hand he did not care who would become king, but only that the one crowned would bear him no ill will for not observing the niceties. Besides, the capitol had its pleasures. Not even the warm baths of the healing houses could melt the ice in his heart. His pale, blue eyes darted about the room, taking stock of all who had come to witness the coronation. The dearth of northern lords was heartening.

    ---------

Lord Harys Swyft arrived wearing a tunic bearnig the sigil of his house, a rooster. His sandy blonde hair fell in tumbles around his neck. He wore a silver belt, dressed for the occasion, but not too richly. A gold ring was on his finger.

Lady Berena Allyrion, followed by her whole family, arrives at the coronation. She rarely left Godsgrace, but this occasion was something special. This would be seventh king on the Iron Throne during her lifetime, as many as there were gods. How could she not come? It would also be nice to meet Princess Lucia Martell again. Berena was very fond of the young princess.

Ser Norne had awaited his lady mother and his wife and daughters since the Great Council had ended. Now he wanted nothing more than to return home to the unforgiving desert. There he was king, with his sand-steed as his throne. He could ride for days, living off the harsh land and feeling the cooling breeze of the Red Dunes. King's Landing was crowded, filthy and noisy. How he loathed the loathed the city.

Alliser stood by himself with a wineskin already in his hand. After meeting his family again he had wandered off to fetch the prize in his hand. A good dornish strongwine, his favorite. As he drank it down, the blood red liquid spilled down on his cheeks, its sweetness intoxicating. He enjoyed the coronation before it had even begun. King's Landing was a paradise; the people many and various, the food exotic and wonderful and the whores the greatest of them all. It was so different from Godsgrace. Of all the places he had visited, this city was the best.

    --------------------

Lord Stannis Harlaw and Jasper Harlaw arrived at the coronation, dressed in simple black and grey garments with with silver scythes on their black cloaks. Stannis had a granite face, balding grey and white hair and a matching full beard. Jasper had long flowing brown hair and a long scar across his face. When the ravens had come to Ten Towers, their longships had quickly sailed out. With a new king on the throne, the Ironborn needed representation if they didn't want more isolation than before. Although father and son both favored the Old Way, Lord Stannis Harlaw had figured that the Iron Islands were a part of the realm, so they would have to justify and defend their actions when the longships sailed out again. A new king meant a new Small Council that would need a new Master of Ships.

Lord Hugo Arryn and his family, two sons and two daughters, were present in fine clothing. The children all wore brighter Arryn colours, while Hugo himself wore the same subdued tones he'd been wearing for both the funeral and council meeting. As was customary the men wore swords about their waists. Rickard mingled among the Vale Lords, happily chatting away, while Hugo and Harras spoke among themselves in hushed tones. The girls were among the gaggle of Vale Ladies. This King was not the candidate that Hugo had endorsed, but he was the candidate that the Great Council had chosen: fair enough to Hugo's mind, the Eyrie was far from King's Landing and affairs of the Capital rarely touched upon the daily happenings in the Vale.

The Leffords were present wearing leather and silk garments of high quality, Lefford sigils sewn onto their breasts. They had arrived with the Westerlands delegation and spoke freely among the Westermen gathered. Ser Ulfric was present, shrouded in a cloak and wearing a linen overshirt, under which was concealed a chainmail shirt, wrist braces and armguards. He shadowed Harmund, quietly watching the crowd. The Leffords did not know who Tommen Lannister, a son-in-law and cousin to Harmund and his sons, respectively, and had no opinion either way regarding Aegon, Aemon or the child Aegon: the sole concern was whether everyone would respect the coronation or not.

Lord Tommen Lannister arrived at the coronation with his wife and family. They were all dressed in expensive clothing in the resplendent Lannister colors of crimson and gold with the Lannister sigil sewn into their chest. At his side, Lord Tommen wore a ceremonial longsword whose sheath was encrusted with jewels. The Lannister Household stood with the Westermen having no desire to remain apart from their nobility.

Lord Tommen himself was feeling uneasy about this whole event and over the past three days he was still trying think if he had made the correct choice in choosing Pricne Aegon over Prince Aemon, the warrior over the scholar. Though he was happy that the Council had managed to avoid a civil war, at least for now, he was unhappy that neither Prince had actually stayed to the Council meeting's end and that both men had left in anger over each other. He knew this would not bode well and he needed to prepare himself for the worst.

Upon spotting his father-in-law, Lord Harmund Lefford, Lord Tommen approached him and said "Lord Harmund, it is good to see you again my Lord." Lowering his voice so tha only he and the nearby Leffords could hear, he then said "How do you feel about this coronation Lord Harmund? Do you think that I made the right choice in choosing Prince Aegon?"

The Starks arrived much as they had in the funeral, Lord Torrhen was wearing his grey cape with the direwolf symbol on his breast, Lady Jeyne wore a long grey dress and looked shy althought not sad as in the funeral and Jon looked smug wearing the same clothes of his father with a cloak instead of cape. Lord Stark waited among the gathered nobility, his son and daughter to his sides, he wanted it to be done quickly so he could marry off his son and return to Winterfell being tired of King's Landing and it's mess. The younger Stark looked around the crowd to see if he could find his bride.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lord Brax was among the gathered Western nobility, wearing white and purple with the Unicorn sewn on his doublet. His sons accompanied him and were mingling among Western nobility, looking around the gathered Lords he noticed the Lords Lefford and Swift but not his overlord Lord Reyne, good, for he was a damned fool.
"We all know whatmy brother would do. Robert would gallop up to the gates of Winterfell alone, break them with his warhammer, and ride through the rubble to slay Roose Bolton with his left hand and the Bastard with his right. I am not Robert. But we will march, and we will free Winterfell … or die in the attempt."

Lord Darkyln, his wife, and two children arrive at the coronation, all elaborately dressed. Following behind the lord was Jasper Darkwood, the captain of his guard, and the four vassal lords of Duskendale, with Hollard and Buckwell arguing over something petty as they wait for the cornation to begin.
    --
The Princess of Dorne arrives, wearing a silver dornish dress with a orange pattern upon it and cut slightly lower than normal. Her retinue consists of nobility of Dorne, lesser nobility from the Broken Arm, several knights, and a handful of courtiers from Sunspear who made the journey northwards via ship to attend the ceremony. Four of her children are also present along with her brother to complete the representation of House Martell, the youngest two of the four remaining close to their mother.

Ryon Martell, wearing ceremonial Dornish armor, walks around talking to a few of the present Dornish lords and ladies. The Lord Marshal of Dorne had spent most of the time leading up to the coronation exploring some of the city's pleasures, viewing this as a vacation of sorts from Dorne, but now it is nearly over and he is of mixed feelings. While pleased he gets to return to Sunspear, he yearns to explore more of the city.

The twins, Lucifer and Corenna, both dressed in their finest clothing, wander around through the crowds of nobility, with one of their mother's Sun Guard, a man named Illyrio who towers over the twins serving as their escort. The pair of Martells and their guard find Lady Allyrion and her family in the crowd, and both bow to her. "Lady Allyrion, a pleasure to see you here." Lucifer states, while Corenna politely smiles. "My Lady."

Alliser noticed Ryon Martell walking around by himself, without anything to drink it seemed. Not drunk, at a feast? They couldn't have that, now could they? Alliser went up to Ryon and offered him the wineskin, already a bit unsteady on his feet.

"Ryon Martell, it's been awhile, hasn't it? When was it again? Some kind of gathering, so much I remember..."

Lady Berena smiles and bows to the twins, followed by the rest of her family. She was wearing a red and golden dress, with a black headscarf covering her silver hair. Her skin was wrinkled and had the dark tone of the Sandy Dornish of the desert, yet her brown eyes were sharp and awake.

"It is a pleasure to meet you as well, Ser Martell, as well as you, Lady Martell. I am so glad to meet you again, you were just children when I last saw you. Now a young man and a beautiful maiden stand before me, so much like your lady mother's father and mother when I was young. I hope that everything is well at Sunspear, it has been so long since I last left Godsgrace, but that is what comes with my age."

Ryon nods in thanks to Alliser before taking a drink from the wineskin, then handing it back to him.

"It has, Ser Allyrion. I believe the last time we met was several days ago at the funeral of King Maekar."

. "Thank you, my lady. Everything is well at Sunspear, how fares Godsgrace, my lady? Have you seen the Orphans of the Greenblood recently?" "It is a pleasure to meet you again as well, my lady. As my sister has stated, Sunspear is well, the city thrives, and as Dorne was never affected by the devastating plague that swept through the northern realms, as you surely know having lived through that dark time..the people have enjoyed a peaceful existence that hopefully does not change soon."

"Oh yes, the funeral... too grim for my taste, never been too fond of the dead. Luckily, there many living in King's Landing, some livelier than others, if you catch my drift."
He laughed and took another large gulp of wine.
"How d'you find the capital, Ser Ryon? Colder than Dorne, I'd say, but with its own perks."

"Oh, nothing has changed at Godsgrace in years, it is as well as it has ever been. And the Orphans frequently stops at our little river port for one reason or another, they are very nice people. They sail up and down the Greenblood in their beautiful boats, sometimes I envy them. It seems so calm and peaceful to follow the flow of the river."

"It was a very terrible time, it could be felt to Dorne even though we weren't affected by it. Indeed, hopefully those times are behind us, but that is what they said after Blackfyre perished. Only the gods know what might come, and they are silent."

The Tullys arrive to the coronation. Lord Edmund wears a rich velvet doublet, lined with fur, dyed crinsom. It had an embroidery that resembled waves, made of silver thread. His cloack, blue, is fastened by a silver trout. His hair, red is comb backwards. His beard well-trimmed. All fiercely red, as most of Tullys. He wore a belt, made of red leather, with his sword; it's hilt made of steel and silver, with a trout in the pommel. His sisters were wearing rich gowns, with the Tullys' colours, they were elaborate head-dresses, with long silken veils. The Lord Paramount is followed by many of his vassals, like Lord Mooton, Lord Mallister, Lord Darry (his uncle), Lord Bracken a representative of Lord Blackwood (Bracken was just at the opposite side) and many others, the cream of the Riverlands' nobility.

Harmund turned round as his son-in-law's voice was heard in greeting. He smiled and nodded in response to the greeting. Tommen was not much older than his own children, but already sat as Lord Paramount of the Westerlands, a position of huge importance and near unparalleled power below the Iron Throne itself. Harmund viewed the young Lannister with a mixture of respect for his position, as was demanded, and fatherly concern, as Harmund ranked among the oldest and longest-serving Lords in the Westerlands at this time and his daughter was long Tommen's wife. Such a wedding day it was, all those years ago.

"Ah, Prince Aegon it was," said Harmund in a low voice with a nod of understanding, "The warrior over the scholar. Each had their merits, Tommen, I could hold no one at blame for selecting one over the other. The Realm needs strength now more than anything else, which Prince Aegon will deliver for certain. In the longer term, however, Aemon's wisdom may have proven a better guiding hand to the Realm than Aegon's martial prowess. Much will rest on the strength and influence of the Hand and Small Council: Aegon would do well to select a Hand who is his opposite, a man of temperance, to balance him."

He gave a brief glance around the room at the massed nobility from every corner of the Realm.

"I feel your choice was sound. Aegon's strength of character will bind this Realm to the Iron Throne. We need only hope he is fair and not harsh, decisive but not authoritarian."

Harmund could barely see the soon-to-be King as he stood at the head of the Great Hall, immersed in discussion with a number of people - Palace scribes, Septons, various officials, people needed to officiate the crowning in general - looking resplendent in his highly polished armour and much like his father in aura. A man like Aegon, with his strength, will force the Seven Kingdoms into line over such a disputed succession, but a man like Aegon also trod a dangerous line, and if he slipped into arrogant heavy-handedness, as so many of his type do, the Realm could well burn for it.

Lord Tommen nodded and smiled slightly with the knowledge that his father-in-law agreed with his decision. "Prince definitely has the personal strength to unite our realm but I fear that he may be a little too headstrong to do so. The Prince is ambitious and believes in his own skills. I do agree with you and hope that he chooses a Hand who can counter hi. From what I have heard, that Hand appears to be the Lord Torrhen Stark. Not a bad choice if I may say."

He paused for a moment to glance up to front to check the proceedings before he returned his gaze to those around him. "But whether or not Prince Aegon will become a great King Lord Harmund, I want the Westerlands prepared for the worst. Did you know that both Princes left the Council before we had officially made a decision, though admittedly, Prince Aemon did only leave when it was clear that the vote was against him. And now, I do not see him here to witness his brother's rise to the throne. That does not bode well. What do you make of this Lord Harmund?"

Simeon Voskari hadn't left the capital after the funeral had been over, and as such still wore the simple tunic he had worn during the funeral. The journey back alone would have taken well over two months, four if one counted the way back, which meant it couldn't be helped that he could not dress for the occasion. As a result, his wife and daughters were not present either, like him not having anticipated that the succession would go as smoothly as it had, and honestly having expected some sort of skirmishes if not full-out war before the next King would be decided. And a battlefield, he knew, was not an environment he'd expose his daughters to if he could help it. Had the North declared for Aemon for example, he would have needed to sneak through the entirety of the Riverlands to get home, and as much as he considered the Riverlords honorable, common soldiers were often of a less noble character, and he would not have them lay a finger on his daughters.

Fortunately though, that crisis had been averted, and while the lack of any representation of House Voskari aside from himself was regrettable, he still felt like he had made the best choice. Taking a deep breath, he prepared himself for the coronation ceremony to begin.

    -----

Rhaelle Targaryen had a wide grin on her face, beaming with a pride she did not bother to hide. Her father, a fourth son, was about to be crowned King! The very thought made her feel lightheaded and giddy, one of her own brothers would one day sit on the Iron Throne as well, and she would be sister to the King. Perhaps Queen as well, she knew about members of her family wedding brother to sister in the past, and while her father had married for love she didn't know whether the responsibility of the crown would make him change his policies when it came to his children. Still, though she was fourteen already she had not yet reached the age where she would start to think about marriage, her thoughts about boys were still just limited to mild annoyance when Duncan and Jaehaerys were playing again, which usually resulted in Duncan winning followed by an argument again which Duncan would win too most of the time. She softly shook her head, looking next to her to the two boys that were managing to behave themselves surprisingly well, before turning back to the dais where her father would soon be crowned as Aegon the Fifth, King of Westeros.

Lord Lucyus I Reyne arrives, dresses in finest red and grey dyed velvet, a silver cloak with his sigil on it and a decadent chain. Wearing rings on each finger and his well-forged sword ready to hand. accompanied by his most loyal Vassal Lord Alvyn Lydden and his Uncle and Commander of his personal Guard, Ser Ryan Reyne.
Lucyus is looking around if everyone noticed his arrival at the coronation. there is Lord Tommen Lannister his liege "Lord Tommen, good to see you my Lord" he says, after that he looks for a seat with a good overlook to see everything from the ceremony that starts soon.

Aegon approached his daughter, kissing her twice on the cheek "The Lords of the Seven Kingdoms have chosen wisely."

    ----
Lord Bolton at length left his perch and in long, elegant strides, made his way to Lord Stark. His gaunt complexion and pale skin almost made him look like a corpse, and his voice came as if in a low, soft whisper. "Lord Stark" he said barely inclining his head. "Shall we rejoice at this unlikely ascension?"

Rhaelle gave Aegon a pleased smile when he spoke to her, giving him a quick nod of her head.

    - "I knew they would."

She looked around another time, trying to find another familiar face, though she could not find it. While she was aware of the claim Daeron's daughter had, and that insult to one the Lyseni mummer put forward, she did not know of Aemon's change of heart during the Great Council: As far as she was aware, he was still sworn to his Maester's chain and had not participated in the bid for the Crown.

    - "Is uncle Aemon held up somewhere? I can't see him."

He gave a small smile "I wish I had your faith, then." He recalled the tense moments waiting for the lords to return news."Aemon...however..." There was no point in mincing words. "Aemon might as well be named traitor." He sighed. "He made his claim for the throne and lost. I have not seen him since that day, I have reason to believe he fled the capitol."

Rhaelle blinked in surprise at hearing the news. Aemon had made a claim for the Throne as well? But he had his chain, didn't Maesters renounce their ties to their former Houses? Then again... that might be why her father had called him a traitor then. It was hard to imagine him as someone plotting against someone, but if her father said so...

    - "I... see. I apologize then, i did not mean to make you uncomfortable."

It was clear that she was still surprised to hear of Aemon's betrayal against Aegon, but she decided she would not speak of it right now. Perhaps another time, when there were less important matters to attend to and half the Lords of Westeros weren't in the room with them.
