Default Custom settlements possibly a reason for broken siege ai?

So I have been playing a Backtria campaign and all of my enemy sieges have been going well (men using ladders, catapults, climbing ladders ect) untill I get to persepolis... Now one thing I noticed was all the cities I played out defenses in were pretty basic (though unique which I really enjoy from this game, they had 4 walls in a square.. no rivers, no cliffs ect...) Persepolis on the other hand was different, it had this huge cliff that acted as a wall then lowered down to the gate. when under siege here the ai army approached the cliff like it was a wall and stood there untill I came out and fought them in front of the city....

The reason I am saying this is because although everyone said the ai was broken it was still being able to siege my cities well in every defense I played out... all but the one that was a more unique custom settlement than the others....

Anyone else dealing with this issue? reminds me of the first few custom settlements in Third Age total war... orcs running up to my walls and then standing there not knowng what to do....

So not 'broken' so much as 'incomplete'.

I've always thought that pathfinding was/still is the main issue for the AI's dodgy performance in Siege battles. Once that gets fully fixed hopefully we'll see a siege AI functioning across the board.

The pathfinding needs more tweaking and some maps are really badly made.

    This could be it, honestly.

Barbarian cities seem to have the biggest issues (Have not tried them with the newest patch though) and it is possible this is because Barbarian cities almost universally look very different. They will have cliffs, or rivers, or bridges all breaking up the town. It could be that the AI just can't handle all this.

Just played a few barbarian sieges to see if it changed for me, barbarian cities were the worst. I noticed that they straightened some of the walls, taking out some protruding areas, and it seemed to go a lot smoother.

If you want to confuse a barbarian, put a kink in the wall!!!!
