Default The Red Keep - The Iron Throneroom

The Great Hall of the Red Keep

The Great Hall is the throne room of the king. The Iron Throne sits on a raised iron dais with high and narrow steps.
A long carpet stretches from the throne to the Hall's great oak-and-bronze doors. The Hall itself is cavernous, and can sit 1,000 people.
It is oriented north to south, with high, narrow windows on the eastern and western walls. Skulls of the Targaryen dragons adorn the walls.

Aegon Targaryen entered the Red Keep clad in silver armor. His sword hung by his side. Several of his supporters had followed him, but Aegon knew that he would require more...he was not yet convinced his plan of swift action would be successful. He intended to begin to act as King in the hopes that none would offer serious resistance to his rule.

"Scribe, take a note please." Aegon awaited the little man to produce quill and parchment. "I would reach out to my father's bannermen. Transcribe the following:

To the Lords and Ladies of the Crownlands,

Aemon, my brother, has forsook his chain in order to make a bid for the crown. He has forsaken the citadel and meddled in what would have been a smooth succession, given that the only other serious claimant, a bastard born in Lys, is being vouched for by a foreigner from the pleasure houses of Lys. I call upon you to show courage in loyalty by supporting my rightful claim to the Iron Throne. It is my deepest desire that the transition of power be as peaceful as possible. I have secured, at this early hour, the support of House Tully in my claim.

    Signed,
King Aegon Targaryen, Fifth of his Name, King of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms and Protector of the Realm

From one of the annexes came wandering Lord Hugo Arryn, fresh from the chambers where only recently a bitter argument had raged. Bearing his goblet of wine he ambled into the Great Hall, deserted save Aegon and a few followers and hangers-on discussing things in subdued voices.

From the vantage point up on the walkways along the Hall's edge, Arryn leaned on a pillar and observed the group, too far to overhear anything, but close enough that his entrance would've been seen or at least heard by some of the group.

Aegon strained to see who had joined them. "Is that Lord Hugo Arryn I see? I take it by your presence here you mean to affirm your loyalty?"

The doors to the Red Keep open as Duncan the Tall rushes into the Throne Room. He makes his way in, looking for Aegon.

"No." said Hugo as he lazily moved off the pillar and walked slowly down the stairs, "That I save for the crowned King of the Seven Kingdoms. I take it by your presence here you're making plans to receive my pledge of loyalty in the near future?"

Edit: OOC: Let's have Duncan enter just after Arryn said that.

Before either party could speak further, the groaning of doors could be heard as Duncan strode at a determined pace into the Great Hall. Arryn knew why he'd come, he'd already hinted at it to Aegon, and so silently watched the man as he approached.

He gave a modest smile, looking at the ground. Apparently his ploy had worked and Aemon had no stomach for a fight. "Good. Ser Tall, gather the Lords in the Red Keep, those who offered their loyalty. We will hold a coronation ceremony in several days in order to end this controversy once and for all. I will make appointments to my Small Council, as well as other necessary arrangements."

Aegon looked down expectantly. He had been worried that no lords had walked out with him. Surel resolute action was preferable to drawn out debates. "What is it, Ser Tall? Will it be war then?"

Lord Baratheon tells me that the Small Council has decided in your favor. You are to become King, Your Grace.

Ser Duncan approaches Lord Arryn and Aegon. He stands there, looking at the two of them.

[OOC: I don't know if you mean gather everyone right now AND prepare for a crowning in a few days, or gather everyone in a few days for the crowning. I'll assume the latter since the former makes little sense to me. If you actually do want everyone gathering twice, assume Arryn doesn't walk away after he speaks.]

"Loyalty in a few days then, Dragon." said Arryn in conclusion as he turned to leave the Great Hall, harking back to their brief conversation before Ser Duncan arrived with the official news.

Send ravens throughout the realm, Your Grace. So that all may come upon your coronation to make oaths of fealty to you and the Iron Throne.

"A sensible suggestion, Ser Tall." Aegon folded his arms. "Ser Tall, I will be needing men of quality near me during my reign. I would be honored if you would serve as Lord Commander of my Kingsguard."

Your...Your Grace, I am a man of no caliber to serve such a high and honorable position. I am but a simple knight who grew up on the streets of Flea Bottom.

"I disagree with that assessment, you are every bit capable. You are my sworn shield, friend, and adviser. I would have none other."

Aegon had by now taken his seat upon the Iron Throne, still wearing his armor.

"Lords Tully and Stark, the first among my supporters, welcome. I trust your words swayed men in the council to stay true to our laws despite the ambitions of my brother."

Ser Duncan still wasn't sure due his background. However, Aegon was now King...and he could not disrespect nor disobey this order. He bows his head reluctantly to Aegon.

Then I shall accept, Your Grace.

Tully feels unease when he sees the King so comfortably sit in the Throne of his forefathers, he was bold indeed, but he was the rightful King, and such Tully would not say a singl word against him, not now. He was a promising King at least, seemingly unaffected by his family's folly.

    Tully bows:

"Your Grace, the Great Council has appointed you the King and Lord of the Seven Realms, and was decided by a wide majority"

He coughs, nervous. Lord Tully was young and a little bit unexperienced, he had talked with Maekar maybe thrice, and speak to his new liege wasn't easy.

"Our support was to the only rightful claimant, Oathbreakers and foreign bastards are not fitting to rule over the Realm, your Grace"

"Lord Stark and myself come here to swear fealty to the Throne, and ask when your Royal Coronation will be held"

"Well said." Aegon rose and descended several steps. The Keep was still relatively empty. No doubt it would be fuller in the hours to come with well wishers. "We must always adhere strictly to the laws of the land. Without them we are nothing. The pretenders will renounce their claims and swear fealty, or I swear by the old gods and the new, I will scour the world for them and bring them to justice for their treason." He chose to overlook any hesitation in Tully's voice. "The coronation will be held three days hence. There is much to be done, my head swims with the details."

"Law is Honour made flesh, and myself as a Tully, actually care about honour. I will help your Grace to solve the problems that currently plague the Realm after the death of your Royal father. Including any usurpers or rebels against the Throne. As it is my duty to do so and as my honour commands"

Shortly after Lords Tully and Stark entered the Throne Room, Lord Tommen Lannister soon follows, arriving with his brother and five of his Household Guardsmen in tow. “Prince Aegon Targaryen, I have come to offer you my congratulations on your ascension to the Throne as well as to offer you my oath of fealty as your Lord Paramount and Warden of the West.”
