Default A New World Expansion.. Sounds Interesting

Hey y'all, looks like the word is that the expansion for M2TW will in fact be including the New World as some people thought. Sounds like a great idea to me. Some interesting questions to ask:

    1. What will the campaign map include? Will they decide to just include the New World, or will they include Europe as well? That would seem like a repeat of the original if they did that, so they'll need to place special emphasis on it to make people interested. I personally would like to see an expansion that involves only a few European factions like, say, the Spanish, French and English conquesters and colonisers, on a map focusing just on the Americas. What they should do with this expansion is focus on the American factions more. Which brings me to my next point:

    2. What American factions should they include? I think this depends on how much of the New World they decide to include. If they included the whole of Central and Southern America, we would be getting a whole big variety of factions, so that would be a solid choice. However, including North America could also bring in a lot of factions.

    3. How many years/turns will there be? How late will they end up going? I would find it great if they managed to somehow include the American Revolution (assuming you've conquered everyone that is). Maybe they could put it in as a seperate era or historical battle? But then again, theres already a mod on that.

What do you guys think? Is the New World a good location? Or would you prefer to see somewhere else? What factions would they include? etc etc.

The site with those screens mentions the expansion.

"An extension would be already envisaged in the buildings of Creative Assembly, and should relate to the American continent and the Aztec wars."

I really don't care to play or conquer the Native Americans, so I really don't care to see that expansion.

i would love it to embark on a global map.

one that would allow for proper illustration of european colonialism and expansion.

also, dynamic rebel/insurgent factions such as gran colombia, empire of brazil, empire of mexico, boers, etc...you know, those states that rebelled from european rule before they established present day nations.

it would be amazing to have this done, but it would take forever and probably be riddled with inaccuracies.

It would be cooler if they went back further when the Aztecs were growing. I wouldn't care for a gunpowder infested expansion but who knows.

Total war games only work well when

    A. its primarily close combat, wich an american theme isnt.
    B. it involves factions people can identify with readily. (there wont be any "americans" even if this rumour is true since the continuation of mtw2's foray into america wouldnt auto jump to the war of independance, it would have to deal with years and years of indians vs. brits vs french vs. spain. boring as hell if your not french or british.

Not to mention that realisticly... the wealth of culture and raw materials CA can use from america pales in comparison to what they can use regarding europe.

America didnt get to the level of war fare or epic battles that TW games need until well into the age of guns.... and as already said... guns in a TW game are second fiddle to swords and clubs and pikes and bows.

So in my humble opinion, as a long time TW veteran... the day TW games focus on america is the day TW games start to degrade in quality, in both gameplay and culture.

The only way i can see a TW game focusing on america is after Napoleonic total war... wich covers the massive battles in europe first.... (and it doesnt matter about wether events in the expac are before/after/during the main game or not... viking invasion was set before MTW1 so theres a precedent that it doesnt need to be hundereds of years later like in stw and rtw).

That's why I propose they go back to when the Aztec empire was rising, there were some big battles. There were many unique armies too. I'm sure the Incas had some big battles but don't quote me on that, Inca history isn't my thing.

The only thing better than a world wide "Civilization: Total War", would be a "Fantasy: Total War". I'm still waiting for the successor of Master of Magic to be made, and it seems like Creative Assembly may be the only ones inclined to do it.

StarDock, maker of the Galactic Civilization series, has been trying to get the license to Master of Magic in order to do a sequel. If they ultimately can't get it, they've said they'll go ahead with their own independent fantasy strategy game.

Yes, I've heard that. But I bet StarDock wants to make a turn-based copy like the others who expressed interest before them. I want evolution, not the same game with better graphics. Not too much evolution, just switching to real-time battlefield maps and working out a way to have large maps to fit our ability to make cities anywhere we want.

Having played GC2 and read stuff from the developers, I have great trust that anything stardock makes will be worth playing.

Their already working on a American's expansion. I've heard it in an article on IGN i believe. Its a tech race for the technology to be able to cross the atlantic. And only the aztec's are expressed. As for Natives, and New France, the game would need to be in its 1600's at least for that.

i was hoping for napoleanic era or late baroque period...1750s

or the height of the habsburgs under Charles V...it'd be amazing as europe had changed tremendously since the era in M2TW
