Default Casterly Rock, Seat of House Lannister (Main Branch)

    Casterly Rock Bio

Once the fotress of a now extinct House, the Casterlys, Casterly Rock is now the fortress and keep of the main branch of House Lannister. The Rock has never fallen to its enemies in battle and the only reason that the Lannisters took the rock was through Trickery and Deceit. The Rock is a massive fortress carved straight into the Stone. In the mines and hills of the Rock, gold is still mined, providing the Lannisters with an ever endless source of wealth.

In battle, the Lord of the Rock prefers to wield not the sword but his pocketbook, preferring to hire sellswords and spies to do his dirty work, leaving his own hands clean and free from the taint of battle. The Lord of the Rock is a loner of sorts. He prefers to spend time by himself contemplating on ways to increase his wealth and power or plotting his revenge against others. Ser Gerold constantly pushed the young Lord Tommen to act like a Lord at all time and attend all functions regardless of his age. He understood that the only way that the boy was going to learn to become a man without his mother and father as to push him hard no matter how difficult the situation was. During his time as regent, Ser Gerold ruthlessly put down rebellions by other claimants to the Rock who had desired to use the young Lord Lannister’s age against him. These traitors were mercilessly put to the sword in Lord Tommen’s name.

After Lord Tommen had come of age and after he had arranged his own marriage to Lady Kyra of House Lefford, Ser Gerold retired from his official position as the regent and mentor of the Lord of the Rock to live a simple life in a small country villa paid for by Lrod Lannister in gratitude for what he had done for him. Now, with the departure of Lord Lannister’s brother to serve as the Lord Commander of the City Watch in King’s Landing, Ser Gerold has been recalled to active duty by Lord Tommen to serve him as his mentor and marshal once more.

Two men stroll into the main keep of Casterly Rock. Both bore a sigil of a lion upon their shoulder plates, except the color was copper, not the Gold Lion sigil of House Lannister. Nonetheless, these two were of Lannister blood, the neglected cousin branch of the House descended from Lancel 'the Neglected Lion.' To the right stood the proud and silent Uthor and to the left was the handsome Rufus, the sons of Jeffroy 'the Joyless.' They strolled into the keep, Uthor not even paying attention to the glances of others, while Rufus flashed shiny grins at beautiful maids who cleaned the hallways. Uthor glances at his brother.

For the love of the Seven, stop being so cheery. We are here for business, not pleasure.

Rufus grimaces at Uthor and shakes his head. He pats his brother's shoulder, which was replied with a cold stare, making Rufus back off slightly. He straightens himself quickly and continues walking.

But so many beautiful woman! Come on, Uthor. We are bachelors! Enjoy life for once.

Uthor doesn't even respond, making Rufus shake his head again at his more serious older brother. The two continue down the hallway to meet with Tommen Lannister.

The two are brought before Lord Tommen who was sitting outside on a patio enjoying the Summer air. When he noticed the two approach, he stood and said "Well if it isn't my dear cousins from a Lannister side branch. What brings the two of you to the Rock?"

Uthor and Rufus approach Tommen, the head of the Lannister family, Lord of Casterly Rock and Lord Paramount of the Westerlands. Both bowed to their liege respectfully then stand up before Uthor steps forward. Rufus coughs slightly, making Uthor stop and nod his head. Rufus smiles at his brother; among the two, the younger brother was a better speaker. Rufus approaches Tommen, bowing his head once more before speaking.

My Lord Lannister, my brother and I, descended from Jeffroy 'the Joyless' and Lancel 'the Snake,' come forth with a request. While Lancel was indeed a seditious man, our father, Jeffroy, was a noble and loyal man. He taught us loyalty to the true Lords of Casterly Rock which will bring our branch needed prosperity. After three generations, my brother and I come to ask for land and title. So that we may begin our own legacy, one that is both shared and separated from the main branch, your noble line, Lord Tommen.

"Then your timing could not be more exquisite cousin. I have need of a new of Shield of Lannisport and a loyal one at that too. The last one, another cousin of ours in fact, tried to kill me on this very patio by trying to push me off the ledge in hopes of gaining my seat. The only thing that bastard gained was a quick trip to the Stranger along with sudden and excruciatingly painful stop." said Lord Tommen with a grin on his face at the end.

"I should appoint my brother to that seat since he is a closer kin to me then you are but I fear that he does not have the brains to manage our most important port. Do you think that the both of you combined, Ser Uthor and Ser Rufus, are up to task of bringing glory and prosperity to Lannisport so that it may one day match the glory of Oldtown and King's Landing. If so, then I will give you Lannisport to turn into a seat of your own."

Uthor and Rufus look at each other. It was Uthor's idea to get a title and land, but Rufus never thought it could be handed over so easily. They look at each other for awhile longer before Rufus turns to Lord Tommen.

Your generosity means no bounds, My Lord. However, who will serve as the Shield of Lannisport? Only one can take that position and it is either I or Uthor.

"Uthor shall be the Shield of Lannisport and you shall be sworn under him Rufus. It is only right that the eldest is given the title while the younger brother pledges his sword in service." said Lord Tommen with a smile on his face after seeing their heads turn. "Do not make me regret my choice cousins. Make Lannisport strong."

Uthor did not show a smile, but his pride swelled for he was to be the Shield of Lannisport. Rufus wished he had become the Shield, but it was the laws of the realm, the eldest would gain the title. Both bow their heads to Lord Tommen. Uthor then speaks up.

Thank you for giving land and title to your cousin branch, My Lord. We will serve you loyally and faithfully as our father, Jeffroy 'the Joyless,' did before us.

Lord Harys Swyft is escorted into the Golden Gallery of the Rock where Lord Tommen Lannister can be found sitting in the gilded room enjoying a simple meal. When the Lord's arrival is announced by Lord Lannister's herald, Lord Tommen cleans his face and rise from his seat and says "Lord Harys, welcome to Casterly Rock. What brings you to my home? Is there something wrong in Cornfield?"

Harys bowed "None, my lord, other than unfortunate news from the Reynes. They are as arrogant as ever. Still, there are other commercial friends to be found in the Westerlands, and I have secured extra income in spite of Lord Reyne's curt manner." He paused for a moment, resting his hand on the pommel of his sword. "Though that is not why I come, to complain about the Reynes. Word has reached us of the death of the King, without an heir. War is on the lips of most in the south. If that is so, we should begin our preparations."

"The arrogance of the Reynes never surprises me Lrod Swyft. Those upstarts try to challenge my power on a regular basis." said King Tommen with a sigh. "What you have heard is indeed true Lord Swyft that King Maekar is dead and that he has left us without a designated heir. We may soon me having a war on our hands yet again for that damned Iron Throne."

Lord Tommen paused for a moment before he said "It heartens me to hear that you are already looking to our future. Prepare yourself Lord Swyft and your men for war. I will do my best to avert this coming conflict but the will of these Dragons will be hard to change. If war breaks out Lord Swyft, I am giving you command of our forces on our Southern border including those of the High Lordships of Crakehall, Silverhill, and Payne Hall along with your own men. Your orders will be to stay on the defensive unless you recieve orders from me otherwise Lord Swyft. I have no intention of wasting the lives of my men fighting the Dragon's war. If they want our support of the West, these claimants to the Throne will need to earn it."

"A wise course, my Lord. The Targaryens will have to sort out the issues of their house and inheritance. I, for one, feel no need to die for them. I will lead the defenses faithfully. No enemies will threaten us from the Cornfields." Harys knew the stoutest castles of the Westerlands lie on the Golden Road and to the north. THe south was the soft underbelly. Wooden keeps and palisades could not keep the enemy out for long.

OOC: Damn it, let's try this again.

"That is good to hear Lord Harys. Your task shall be the hardest of all of our flanks I am afraid, at least compared to Lefford who can rely on the walls of the Golden Tooth for the support. You on the other hand must rely on your sword arm and the courage of your men. As soon as I am assured that our Western coastline is not harried by the Ironborn, I shall send what forces that I can to reinforce your army." said Lord Tommen. He gestered for Lord Harys to take a seat if he wished while he himself did so. "So tell me Lord Swyft, do you perhaps have a son or a younger brother?"

"Well then, I have proposition for you Lord Swyft. It is my desire to ensure that I have both the friendship and the loyalty of my most important lords. With the support of the Leffords ensured through my own marriage to them, it is time that I look to my Southern border." said Lord Tommen. He paused for a moment to take a sip of wine before he continued. "This is my offer to you Lord Swyft. My daughters Elizabel has reached her tenth name day. It is time that I start looking for potential suitors to betroth her to. I have decided that your son Lord Swyft would make a lovely match for her. Do you agree with my offer?"
