Default Pyke, Seat of House Greyjoy

    Pyke, Seat of House Greyjoy

    Regional bonuses for Pyke
    Clifftop Stronghold
With many of it's towers standing on thin stacks in the sea, it is a miracle that so much of the castle of Pyke is still standing. A thick curtain wall surrounds the area of the castle which stands on the mainland, and the towers are connected by thin bridges, meaning that storming them is incredibly difficult, as many of the bridges are too small for two men to cross side by side. +3 to siege defense.

    Home of the Ironborn
Few of the Ironborn would say that any one of their islands is more important than the others, but to those from the mainland Pyke is the main island, as it is the home of the Lords Paramount, House Greyjoy. All characters get +10% pillage.

    Capitol of the Iron Born
Discount of 15% for all naval units.

    Ironborn Fleet
The Ironborn lords have access to a large amount of longships: 10% discount when buying ships.

Pyke is an ancient stronghold. It was originally built on a cliff jutting out into the sea, but over time the cliff has eroded, leaving the castle's towers standing on series of small, barren rock stacks, surrounded by water. The towers are connected by swaying rope bridges. The keep, its towers, walls and bridges are made of the same grey-black stone of which the rest of the island is composed.

In the thousands of years the keep has stood, it has become covered with green lichen. A curtain wall encloses the headland of fifty acres and the cliffs around the foot of the wide stone bridge which extended out to the largest islet. The stables, kennels and livestock are located on the headland. The Great Keep, Kitchen Keep and the Bloody Keep each sit on their own islands. Towers and outbuildings are located on stacks beyond them, linked to each other by covered archways where the pillars stood close and by long, swaying walks of wood and rope when they did not. To get to the Sea Tower, one must cross three bridges, the last of which is made of rope.

    House and Character Information
House Greyjoy of the Iron Islands

    "We Do Not Sow"

House Greyjoy of Pyke is one of the Great Houses of Westeros. It rules over the Iron Islands, a harsh and bleak collection of forbidding islands off the west coast of Westeros, from the castle of Pyke on the island of the same name. Members of the family tend to be attractive and well-built, with black hair.

The House descends from the Grey King, a legendary figure from the Age of Heroes. The Greyjoys became the lords of the Iron Isles during the Targaryen Conquest: after Aegon I extinguished House Hoare, he allowed the ironborn to choose who would have primacy over them. They chose Vickon Greyjoy and his line. The Greyjoys have ruled ever since, from their formidable castle of Pyke. The ironborn, however, did lose the Riverlands, which were granted to Edmyn Tully and his descendents.

Thus relegated to their dismal homeland and constrained by the king's peace, the Greyjoys have kept themselves distant from the other Great Houses, rarely taking part in events on the mainland (which they call the "green lands"). At various times they have tried to return to their ancient practices of raiding the western coastlines.

As Lord Jasper Harlaw arrives at the Lord's Hall, he sees Lord Aeron Greyjoy standing in front of a fireplace, staring it with his arms crossed on his back. As he walks in, the guard inside announces... My lord, Lord Harlaw is here. Upon hearing it, Aeron turns around to see Jasper, still having his hands crossed on his back. Aeron speaks...

Well well, Lord Harlaw, you're finally here.

Jasper was confused by Aeron Greyjoy's welcome. He was large for his age, but he was still much different from his father Lord Stannis.

"I'm no lord, Lord Greyjoy. My lord father still lives, but he serves King Aegon on the green lands now. I rule Harlaw in his stead, so that's why I've come when your raven delivered your letter. What can I do for the Greyjoy?"
