Default Golden Tooth, seat of House Lefford

    Golden Tooth Castle
    Seat of House Lefford

    Golden Tooth Castle

Golden Tooth Castle is the seat of House Lefford, and is an imposing fortress built on high ground in the mountain pass. Its high, imposing walls look east, up the valley into the Riverlands: passage along the road is impossible without the agreement of the Lord of Golden Tooth, as the fortress stands along the only road through the pass.

The commanding position of the castle within the pass enables easy control of the surrounding area as well as security: behind the fortress walls running across the valley, a town has sprung up. The Town of Golden Tooth is small compared to the likes of Lannisport or Oldtown, but large enough to get lost in. The town is characterised by its surroundings: a large number of miners live there, and the market bustles with standard fare like food and clothing to the more specialist like hardened headgear and mining attire. Many blacksmiths ply their trade in the streets of the town, forging the pickaxes and spades the mines consume, and there are more engineers to be found here than in many towns thrice the size.

There is little space for farming in the pass, and this is reflected in the town itself: meats are plentiful, harvested from the many sheep and goat herds kept on the slopes of the mountains and in the many small tributary valleys that feed the pass. Grain is imported from the Riverlands and Westerlands, making the roads busy with commerce: grain merchants travel back and forth amongst crowds of would-be prospectors and merchants from far-off lands going to or from Lannisport.

The gold economy makes the area fairly wealthy, with the town and castle kept in good repair. A lively market and plethora of boarding houses attracts many from the surrounding area seeking their fortunes in the mines or market, and the safety offered by the large number of sellswords working the gold caravans means bandits and highwaymen are rarely a trouble.

[ooc: Sorry I totally missed this!]

They are shown through the various levels of the keep until they reach the hall, where Lord Harmund quickly appears from one of the doors to greet them.

"Ormond Westerling!" he said jovially, "It has been a long time indeed! I hope the years treat you kindly."

Ormond Westerling was one of the few Lords in the Westerlands that was of Harmund's generation, and one of a dwindling number who were old enough to remember the First Blackfyre Rebellion. Like Harmund, Ormond would've been a teenager during those two frightful years.

Lord Ormond smiles kindly to Lord Lefford. Both were the most veteran Lords in the Stormlands, even if still Ormond was five years his senior. Lord Westerling walks slowly with the help of his cane (he couldn't walk well since that tourney, when the lance speared his leg and almost died), with his wife, to where Lefford is. Even if sometimes Westerling complained about how young were the Leffords compared to the ancient Westerlings.

"Lord Harmund! Hope everything is faring well at Golden Tooth. As you will remember well our Houses have married into eachother many times in the past, but in the last two generation hasn't a Lefford married a Westerling"

Hits the floor with the cane

"And that is a shame, my Lord Lefford, we come here to ask your lordship if some of your sons and male relatives are avalaible to marry one of my fair daughters"

[ooc: Can you change the speaking colour? I can't see white against the light background of the TWCenter skin. Also, call him Harmund, realistically these two men will have known each other for thirty or more years, they're well past being formal with each other.]

"I have my own son Godric, a man of 22, or my grandson Ryon, a boy of 11." said Harmund, remembering vaguely seeing a Westerling woman somewhere in the family tree. Must be very distant as Harmund could recall the House of his mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, and was sure the Westerling sigil sat near the top of the most recent page in the Lefford family tree annals, placing her some five or six generations behind Harmund, "If she is your daughter I would think Godric would be more suitable, unless the years have been very kind to you!"

Harmund concluded with a chuckle. He was more at ease with old men these days, as with age comes a mellowing of the mind and a departure from the more martial and chivalric puffery that the youth tended to partake in. Men of this age have proven themselves in life, their achievements speaking for them.

ooc: Yes, I can, strange enough it can be read very well on my screen, but must be mine. Ok, Harmund better!

Lord Westerling laughs, that old chap of Lefford! How many times they had jousted against eachother? Or fighted under Lord Lannister's banner together? He could not remember! But they were long time friends, and the senior Lords in the West, at least the only who survived the sickness:

"I could still father two children more without any effort Harmund! doesn't it, Alice?"

His wife sighs, those men always boasting around like roosters, even if their feathers were thinning.

"Yes, we offer a match for that lad of yours, Godric"

"But before I must have a seat, gout and time have payed a toll on me, Harmund. And some wine to wipe the dust of the Crag from my throat"

"Of course, of course, I know that pain!" replied Harmund as he motioned for the two to follow. They made the brief journey out of the hall and into a rather smaller room that had a warm fire and several cushioned seats within, clearly a study or reading room of some sort. Harmund sat on one by a desk as the Westerlings took seats near the fire. A servant soon appeared with a silver platter holding some wine jugs and goblets for the three.

As they were poured and issued, Harmund spoke,
"Godric is like a young horse still, Ormond. Where his brother took a wife and his sister took a husband without resistance, Godric remains unwilling to settle down and enjoys his freedom. As my second son I've permitted this for now, as producing offspring is not so important in sons following the first, but your offer comes at a fortuitous time. Like all colts, a time of breaking must come, and accepting one's place in life follows: I don't begrudge him, I remember the arguments with my own father about taking a wife, I thought it was too early, and that I should be permitted to remain free from commitment to a Lady for years longer, but looking back I see his wisdom now and I see Godric in need of a woman to keep him grounded and sensible."

He drank from his goblet and chuckled. He'd hated his father for forcing a wife upon him, and now he sat here preparing to force a wife upon Godric. How the years change one's perceptions.

"I accept your proposal, Ormund. I'll bring Godric into line." he said, "He is currently visiting his sister at Casterly Rock, off looking to Tommen for some duty to be assigned to fill his days. I'll see to it that word reaches him to return here and I will send word when I have an idea of a wedding date to see if it suits you."

Lord Westerling throws himself to the cushions, thanksful. He puts aside his cane and grabs the goblet sipping the excellent wine.

"Yes, I still remember when I was young, in a tourney I feel in love with Princess Aelinor, such I fool I was that I desired to name her Queen of Beauty, but was unhorsed on the last tilt by a Tully, who naned instead a Darry maid, I think they married afterwards... Bah! But I understand Godric, marriage is a life-long bound that one must be bold enough to ace..."

    His wife coughs.

    "Harmund"

She says (ooc: are Leffords related to Tarbeck?, she is daughter of fomer Lord Tarberck)

"Who of our beloved children would your son choose? Sybill, our eldest, is still unmarried, and not because she isn't fair, but more because she is to shy to acept suitors. However she is one year your son's senior, and I hope that won't be an obstacle"

Lord Westerling nods:"She is pretty, not to lose a Kingdom for, but is well-build and fair, with heart shaped face"

[ooc: Nothing stated in stone, no. I've not bothered building a complete family lineage. ]

"What's a year, eh?" said Harmund with a chuckle, "Such a small age difference is trivial, we're not marrying a woman to a boy. I find many ladies at their age are shy, faced with lines of handsome young men they know little off vying for their hand. It is good that you as a father have stepped in to arrange this. Kyra too would not be wed by now had I left her to her devices."

"Aye, what is a year? Not much in our long lives, and not a huge difference between our children. And such we have a deal"

"I know that feeling, Harmund, she received many suitors, including a Falwell, Tarbeck, or Mooton, but any wasn't as worthy of her hand as one of your sons. When do you think we could celebrate the wedding, Harmund? And where?"

    He rises his goblet:

"Long live and joy for your son and my daughter, shall they have a blissful marriage!"
