    Default Need Advice

With M2TW approaching (as well as Spore) I'm at a crossroads as to whether to A) upgrade B) get a new system or C) leave it be. My specs are as follows:

    AMD Athlon 2500+ (1.8GHZ)
    ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (128MB)
    Asus A7N8X-X Motherboard (N-force2 400 chipset)
    1 GB DDR Ram
    250 GB HD
    52X Cd rom drive

I'll need to buy a DVD Rom drive either way. But how well will this play the game you think - low to mid settings? If I were to upgrade, whats the weakest point here - im thinking the processor. And if it is the processor I'd be better off getting a whole new system correct? So if I sold this system how much could I get? Thanks all.

I have a not much better system, and I struggle to play RTW on low settings with 5000 men. So it dosent look look too good. An almost new system is required here, you can salvage your DVD drive and HD, thats all.
So what would be your budget for upgrading?

First off, he doesn't have a DVD drive, that's what he said, and secondly, I've got an Athlon XP 2400+, which is maybe slightly worse than his CPU, and I can play 2 full armies with high/max with my new GPU, GF 7600GS, thirdly, he's got 1GB RAM which really should be enough. So if you want a enjoyable gaming experience, I just suggest buying a GPU and a DVD drive, DVD RW DL if you can afford it/need it.

What kind of budget are you at?

But a new GPU with that CPU is pointless, a lowly Athlon XP 2400+ would acy as a bottleneck to pretty much any 6600 and above series GeForce and any X1000 (and the X800 cards) series or above Radeon. And his RAM is DDR, not the new fast DDR2, so I suggest a new everything appart from HD, you will also need a DVD drive and probably a new PSU as well.

It would be pointless to upgrade your video card also because that motherboard doesn't support PCI-Express, and buying a AGP card is just a waste of money.

I would get a new computer unless you know of some game coming out late next year you want to play, like warhammer online which in that case I would wait for the E660 to come down or AMDs 4core processors to come out(which I forget when that is happening).

    Thanks for the replies guys.

BTW I was playing RTW on mid-high settings (huge units) at a smooth FPS.

My budget? My budget is a master card . No but I don't want to spend too much. Maybe maximum 500$. So consider the difference between a new system and selling this current one.

How much could I sell this system for you think? (half life 2 also played perfectly on mid settings)
