    I've seen the Elephant. It was right at my 25th battle. Gods they looked frightening but I could swear they were timid as mice!

    What do you mean? I never quite understood the seen the elephant trait.

    It means that your FM has fought 25 battles or more as a general. Participation alone doesn't count, though, he has to be the leader of his stack.

    But why "Seen the elephant"? I know how to get it, I just don't know why it's called that.

    From a limited internet search ... because 19th-century Americans figured it'd be a good phrase.
