    Default Proposal: New Trait: Medicine

Been thinking on this for a bit, and figured i'd just throw it out here and see what people think.

Why is there a Grand Maester position for medicine and healing, when there's absolutely nothing to heal?

I propose a new Trait to be called Medicine that increases out of combat survival odds due to treatment of wounds, application of herbs and the like. Whereas Survival is for that character and that character alone, Medicine would not increase the survival of the character that has it, but of those around him. Because this is a Trait focusing on treatment, it does not apply to survival rolls made during battles, though it could heal wounds faster and/or lessen the odds of infection afterwards. It would also help childbirth rolls to avoid complications and the rolls for child death, though neither can drop below 1/20 to represent factors outside of the Maester's control.

As a typical 'Maester trait' it could even increase incentive to make Maester or wise woman characters.

    Thoughts?

Seems a bit unecessary to me since only Maesters would take it and we have like one active Maester character and its bonuses are not really worth much if it doesn't affect survival in battles where most deaths happen.

Robert would gallop up to the gates of Winterfell alone, break them with his warhammer, and ride through the rubble to slay Roose Bolton with his left hand and the Bastard with his right. I am not Robert. But we will march, and we will free Winterfell … or die in the attempt."

And the fact that Maesters are only used by a few players. Only Hengest is the one with a truly active maester. It would be cool addition if Maesters were more popular.

Depends actually. I can see a couple of noncombat characters such as Ladies picking this up as well to enhance their odds of producing surviving heirs.

It could be usable during battles as well, but for me it was somewhat debatable since i didn't want to stack Survival bonuses too high in case it was a problem. And if it worked during Battles as well then there'd be no reason to pick Survival over Medicine. Survival is more about surviving long enough to get to a healer rather than the healing process itself.

There is where an issue arises, Zethira. You state its a Maester trait and it would be very burdening to have medicine rolls, battle/siege rolls, death, capture and duel rolls within a single battle. Battles are already very complex.
