Been thinking on this for a bit, and figured i'd just throw it out here and see what people think.
Why is there a Grand Maester position for medicine and healing, when there's absolutely nothing to heal?
I propose a new Trait to be called Medicine that increases out of combat survival odds due to treatment of wounds, application of herbs and the like. Whereas Survival is for that character and that character alone, Medicine would not increase the survival of the character that has it, but of those around him. Because this is a Trait focusing on treatment, it does not apply to survival rolls made during battles, though it could heal wounds faster and/or lessen the odds of infection afterwards. It would also help childbirth rolls to avoid complications and the rolls for child death, though neither can drop below 1/20 to represent factors outside of the Maester's control.
As a typical 'Maester trait' it could even increase incentive to make Maester or wise woman characters.
