In vanilla - no, on the contrare, you could get a good trait(VH taxes+public order over 120).

In SS - I didn't notice anything like that.

Well, in vanilla anyway, you'll get GoodTaxman and GoodAdministrator and, yes, Sane (Sane is important because not having it leaves you open to some really nasty ones) traits for having the tax rate high and public order yellow or even better blue face.

But beware, once you have a bank of 10000 florins (a the beginning of a new turn) you'll start getting HarshRuler and StrategyDread traits. Depending on what you want, could be good, but maybe not.

As far as I've read you get StrategyDread when "If you have no more than 1 chivalry, the taxes are very high and the population is not green". Fingers crossed for green faces Also there is a lot of triggers for this to happen(assasinations, spying missions and training those agents).

What are the triggers for HarshRuler? Could't find that one.

    As always, from Salisian:

    ---
Iron Fisted (HarshRuler 1)- +1 Dread, +1 Law, gained after 1 point of
    HarshRuler
    Harsh Ruler (HarshRuler 2)- +2 Dread, -1 Personal Security, +1 Squalor, +2
Law, upgrade after 3 points of HarshRuler
    Cruel Ruler (HarshRuler 3)- +3 Dread, -2 Personal Security, +2 Squalor, +3
Law, epithet "the Cruel", upgrade after 6 points of HarshRuler

HarshRuler has KindRuler and NonAuthoritarian as antitraits, and a
    NoGoingBack level of 2.
On coming of age, a general gains a point of HarshRuler with 4% probability.
If his father has one or more levels of KindRuler, he gains a point with 50%
    probability.
When a general has a brother adopted, he gains a point with 10% probability.
HarshRuler is self-perpetuating. At the end of any turn, a general with one
or more levels of HarshRuler gains a point with 4% probability.
At the end of any turn, a governor who has been in the region for more than
three turns, has a tax level of extortionate, a loyalty level less than
happy, and the faction treasury is greater than 10000 gains a point of
    HarshRuler with 8% probability.

    ---
Mean Leader (StrategyDread 1)- +1 Dread, gained after 1 point of
    StrategyDread
Cruel Leader (StrategyDread 2)- +2 Dread, upgrade after 2 points of
    StrategyDread
Merciless Leader (StrategyDread 3)- +3 Dread, +1 Authority, upgrade after 4
    points of StrategyDread
Malevolent Leader (StrategyDread 4)- +4 Dread, +2 Authority, epithet "the
Malevolent", upgrade after 8 points of StrategyDread
Tyranical Leader (StrategyDread 5)- +5 Dread, +3 Authority, epithet "the
Tyrant", upgrade after 16 points of StrategyDread

Again, they misspelled "Tyrannical", not me.

StrategyDread has StrategyChivalry as an antitrait.
A faction leader gains a point of StrategyDread with 5% probability when they
order a successful spying mission, with 50% probability when they order a
successful assassin mission, with 25% probability when they order a failed
    assassination mission or a bribery.
A general who has no levels of StrategyChivalry who accepts a bribe gains 4
points of StrategyDread. A general gains a point of StrategyDread when he
    exterminates the population.
A governor who creates an assassin gains a point of StrategyDread. A
governor who creates a spy gains a point with 33% probability.
At the end of any turn, a governor who is in a settlement for more than three
turns, a tax level of extortionate, and a loyalty less than happy with a
treasury greater than 10000 gains a point of StrategyDread with 33%
    probability.
At the end of any turn, if the treasury is over 50000, any general with no
levels of StrategyChivalry gain a point of StrategyDread with 33%
    probability.

To avoid bad tax traits, keep tax rate as high until 1 turn before, building completion then reduce to medium or low or move the General out

Is Stainless Steel different from the vanilla and Rome in this regard, then?

In vanilla Medieval 2, you want LOW as much as possible (good ruler traits etc.) and then very high when a building completes for efficient taxman and good assessor and all the rest of it.

Also, if blue (75 or 80%, you get rolls for a slew of really good traits). You want low at all times except for buildings being completed and then you want 75% or 80% with very high.

My understanding that the negative traits with SS, come from a building completing when taxes are set high, tbh I did not notice with RTW1, the other option is to move governor out before it completes

StrategyChivalry is anti-trait to StrategyDread. If you have Governor with StrategyChivalry you can keep taxes on lowest settings (for population increase), and raise tax to high-very high on the turn a building is due to complete then drop back to lowest; a governor with StrategyChivalry is immune to StrategyDread while increasing the taxes makes him immune to the bad economical/admin/governmental traits and even gives him the chance of getting good economical/governing traits like GoodTaxman and GoodAdministrator. The trick is to have a Governor with StrategyChivalry. Its a good idea to always aim for StrategyChivalry for faction leaders as it helps avoid a lot of the negative "IsFactionLeader" specific traits also. Did I mention the trick is StrategyChivalry

Easiest way of triggering StrategyChivalry is when occupying a settlement and not exterminating prisoners (i.e releasing prisoners).
If a General joins a crusade its 100% chance to get StrategyChivalry, building jousting and religion buildings also yield good chances.
Otherwise the General/Governor has to stay in settlement for >3 turns with taxes low and loyalty happy to get good chance of triggering StrategyChivalry and hope the bad traits like BadTaxman/Admin etc. don't trigger prior to StrategyChivalry (this method is risky).

You know, I just marvel when I see it written out like this. Damn, this game is full of wonderful subtleties, and it still amazes me to this day. I love this game

Yeah, those traits you get when the city is with blue morale are quite interesting and hard to get.

Are you talking about in general or SS specifically? I'm really interested if SS works the same way as standard Medieval 2.

That is in vanilla, but I think it is the same in SS, just check the text file for all traits.

That's pretty interesting. What kind of traits do you get at 'blue' public order?

I heard that you should keep taxes on medium and the turn before a building is finished, bump it up to very high taxes. Then you'll get traits such as good administrator, active builder, retinue such as architects etc. Seems to have worked for me sometimes.
The only self-discipline you need is to finish what you sta-

You can find all the vanilla traits and how they work here. I learnt a lot of mechanics of how to obtain exact traits from that guide. I think one of those traits is called ''Rabblerouser''. Just find it via ctrl+f.

In addition, there is a guide for developing your governors:

it proved to be very helpful to me

    Kobal's guide is good too!
