    Default Re-done events

We've redone the rollable events into new types.

    Public descriptions:

    - Crafting boom. Your local artisans are poised to enter a bumper year in their productivity.
    - Sellsword guild. A local sellsword outfit has moved into your local area.
    - Good harvest. The local farmers are reporting perfect conditions for crops!
    - Peasant revolt. The local pesantry are becoming restless at the conditions they face.
    - Religious unrest. A local firebrand is rabblerousing in your locality.
    - Iron Banks Calls in Debts. The Iron Bank has decided to recall the debt in an area.
    - Family Inheritance. A member of your family has left you a substantial lump sum!
    - Border Dispute. Two border lords can't decide where one's lands ends and the other's begins.
    - Shipwreck. A wrecked merchant ship carrying valauble cargo has washed up on the shores.
    - Family Feud. An accidental death threatens to explode into local conflict.
    - Plus two hidden events that only occur under certain conditions...

Events are now condition-based and are either 3-year-long chains or PvP events that will give two or more players competing goals and rewards to the winner. The actual conditions, contents and outcomes are being kept secret, though, so players don't simply approach them in a tick-box fashion.

Seems nice, but aren't there too few of them? Anyway I hope the Others event continues.
"We all know whatmy brother would do. Robert would gallop up to the gates of Winterfell alone, break them with his warhammer, and ride through the rubble to slay Roose Bolton with his left hand and the Bastard with his right. I am not Robert. But we will march, and we will free Winterfell … or die in the attempt."

Some of these seem too conditional or contrived. Also, when rolls for an event occur, who does the event affect? Does every single player get an event roll or does every single player get affected by the rolled event? It would be weird if suddenly everyone got money from a randomly dead relative.

Rolls are done to determine who the event happens to. The events also have several outcomes each, good or bad. "Peasant revolt" is the event name, but an actual uprising is only one of several potential outcomes.

You could probably explain the chains better without giving away too much info, Poach.
I don't think they'll agree to the event chains unless we really explain them well.

Ok so basically, most of these events are 3 years long, with mini-events in all three years.

Year one sets the scene, eg for Peasant Revolt you have some peasants expressing discontent over something or other. Years two and three pan out depending on what you do in preceeding years and give you positive or negative outcomes depending on your approach. As such the name of the event is really just a working title. Peasant Revolt can, if approached correctly, net the player bonuses rather than any uprising or penalties.

From what i gather, it's kind of like the Summer Islands Expedition right now. The roll is made and the first steps of the event are hinted at in that year, then one or two years after that it triggers and starts in full, but by then there'll already be one or two other events brewing from the rolls that came after it.

I like it better that way to be honest, it's less of a 'full stop' one thing at a time. Famine for example isn't as harsh as it should be since it halves your income for one year and you already know that next year everything's back to normal again. If on the other hand the end of the famine would depend on your actions, people would be a lot more encouraged than they are opening the new year thread and going "Crap, famine this year", updating their Vaults and never giving it another thought again.

This is exactly what we are trying to do, change the Random Events into something that will actually have a lasting effect on what is going on in the RP.

Sometimes the random event may only affect the players in one or two regions at a time but the effects of the event can linger to other regions later on. Other times, everyone can be affected but only if they fulfill certain requirements.

@ Ponti: You are correct that for an event like the inheritance one, only specific players chosen by a random roll may be affected. This way, you may be very lucky or unlucky and get the whole brunt of an event or miss it completely.

I am not 100% convinced this is a good method but I would like to see it tested before I decide either way.

I agree with Ponti, I'd like to see a test run of this.

We'll see how it goes when the first event chain is rolled, then. It's still an improvement over the last event list which was "Revolt, because reasons.", "Foreign invasion, because reasons.", and so on. This system lights a spark and lets players direct it from there.

Like any system with food, in all the games I've made and played I still haven't figured out the best way random events should be worked in.

This is the best way, in my opinion. This system does not generate a peasant rebellion (spontaneous massed rebellion is ludicrous), it generates a small group of peasants with some grievance (entirely believable and to an appropriate scale) and thrusts them upon the player(s). Their decisions over the next three years decide whether said revolt happens (which is then believable and fair because there's a trail of bad decision making that stoked the flames) or doesn't (which, again, is believable because there's a trail of good decisions that bridged the gap).

I don't like calling these random "events". Major "events" only happen if you handle the situation badly.

Thumbs up, I really like this twist. More encouragement of RP, story arcs and little events for NPCs that create ripples for players. I likie
