    Default Anti-aliasing and resolution

Hello all . To get directly to the point:

    1. What is anti-aliasing? Does it work?

    2. I am playing RS2 on an Acer Aspire 5750G with Core i5 2.4GHZ, 15.6 inch screen, 6gb ddr3 ram and nvidia geforce GT520M with 332.21 driver (some kind of the hardware update). Anyway, I am experiencing an issue where the picture on the screen seems to be stretched from left to right. I tried to lower the screen resolution in game to no avail. Up to 3 months ago I used to have some black unused space on both sides of the picture in the screen when I lower the resolution. I do not know how but now the picture is using the full sides in the cosequence of being stretched.

Is there anyway to fix it please?

    1. Anti-aliasing "smooths" the edges of textures. Generally it's useless, and I turn it off to save frames.

Check your resolution settings in game and with your nVidea controls (I recognise that driver release, iirc). It sounds as if the latter is stretching the picture to fit wide-screen mode (just like your TV can do). Proper wide-screen on PCs is a fairly recent addition. Recommended normal maximum resolution for RTW is 1280x1024. You can make it go further, but some odd effects will occasionally become apparent.

I think I'm right in thinking that your (laptop?) is one of the newer ones with a 'widescreen' for watching movies and that's why I suspect the widescreen-stretch. The processor (for I'm afraid none of the rest will help) is a fairly slow one and therefore I'd think of reducing many settings anyway for a better experience.

What is the default resolution of your screen? As Lord Tedric states, you can have issues if resolutions are too high, as RTW has a hard time with newer cards that can do things it wasn't designed for.

Try setting your resolutions manually in preferences.txt like this:

    AA_QUALITY:AA_OFF
    STRATEGY_RESOLUTION:1360x768
    STRATEGY_MAX_RESOLUTION:2048x1536
    STRATEGY_32_BIT:TRUE
    BATTLE_RESOLUTION:1366x768
    BATTLE_MAX_RESOLUTION:2048x1536
    BATTLE_32_BIT:TRUE

These settings work very well for me. Also, RTW\BI will likely not detect the min\max resolutions of newer video cards, as it has no way to do so reliably.

Thank you all for your response. Well my default resolution on my laptop is 1366x768, which is the preferred resolution according to my computer settings. I try as you said and then I get back here.

Ok I found the problem. To start with, my laptop has 2 graphics drivers: one integrated with the mother board and the other is the Nvidia GT 520M. Well I play with the latter card for better performance but, I went to check the resolution option in my integrated card options and found I had the option to either make the picture fit the screen or keeps its ration aspect. I chosen the latter option and now the game is no longer stretched from left to right .
