Default Why is this mod so popular?

I’m confused why this mod is so popular, its immensely difficult but not because its well designed but because it’s incredibly unfair.

Nearly every nation is poor surrounded by powerful rebels or at war with every neighbor it has, and the worst part is that the strength and positioning of your starting army changes depending on who you play just to make the mod more difficult.

I get that some people enjoy those kind of challenges but the popularity of this mod still baffles me.

There is no unfairness in EB or any total war game. Skills can get you through anything. In real life, you wouldn't be able to flatten factions like RTW. Trust me, I have a lot of experience in RTW, and I can say it is definitely not realistic. I know some people don't appreciate a challenge, and others don't like historical accuracy as much as flattening enemies in battle after battle, but that is not a reason not to play the mod. Surely you atleast tried to play a bit, instead of simply quitting the game looking at the finances?

I have played the mod a bit and I admit that Rome and carthage are both playable, the other nations I tried are not.
And in my opinion changing everybody’s starting armies just to make things harder for you is unfair.

Ahm I completed sereveral campaigns including Makedeonia,Bakria,Sweboz and Koinon Hellenon and all of them were playable...

Well do you think that each faction had the same level of military power in reality ?

playable without being immensly difficult, which is subjective.

I don’t mind that Macedon has a stronger army than me when I’m playing as the koinon hellenon, my problem is that when I play as Macedon the koinon hellenon have a lot more troops, consistency is all I’m asking.

Heh tough critique... However you are entitled to your opinion of course like all others are.

Search around man there are other mods to try if EB is not the one for you...

    Interesting Fact?
Only the emperor or triumphant generals could wear all purple, anybody else doing so would be killed.

The main reason why I complain is because I know that if this mod was less difficult I would love it.

Why? I love Principes. All you had to do was lower the forester by a thou or so.

    - Immersion. EB has a great atmosphere, provided mostly by the overall design of the buildings and units. The unit models are much more detailed than in Vanilla RTW and not as bland and generic.
    - Historical accuracy. This mod is the most historically accurate one and goes into detail. Many TW players are history buffs, so they appreciate that.
    - Tactics. Unlike Vanilla RTW or most other games, EB has a standardized stat system where each weapon type has fixed stats. Also, the battles play out in a less arcade-y fashion.
    - Difficulty. Most EB players are experienced TW players and are actually looking for a challenge.

If you want to play more relaxed, you can play at M/M difficulty instead of the recommeded VH/M. It's still difficult enough and the AI will be slightly less genocidal.

I guess that this mod is for people who can beat shogun 2 on legendary with their eyes closed, such a shame that it has so many things I really like about it.

Also I have been playing on m\m and most nations are harder than anything Rome 1 can throw at you.

Nope, I can barely get by Shogun 2 on Medium. I understand the RTW and M2TW engines much better than the newer TW games. As mentioned above, just try another faction on M/M. It's not really that bad. Typically once you get your nation to have 4 or 5 provinces, you can have a positive treasury with a positive income flow, then game play s more like vanilla in that regard.

As also mentioned, above, being a history buff helps because this is how the real world was back then. Not made up like vanilla. Think of the screeching woman unit for the Germans in vanilla. How ridiculous....

I'm just guessing, but I think you though Screeching women were a real unit back when you were playing RTW huh? Or am I just very gullible? I really believed the description.
