Medieval 2 total war custom battles won't work

The quick battles work my campaign works I haven't tried the historical battles yet but when I try to do a custom battles I set every thing up but when I click start it loads then says medieval 2 total war has encountered an unspecified error or whatever it's frustrating and I have windows 8 if it helps

Custom battles are notorious for being bugged. You would probably have to learn to mod to play the ones you want.

I only wanted medieval 2 total war and kingdoms for the third age mod do you think custom battles will work for the third age?

I've been playing around with it for a while now at first I couldn't launch it but I found a replacement launcher then that fixed it but now the custom battles are crashing
