David Silvester, a UKIP councillor has blamed recent storms and floods on the Government's decision to legalise gay marriage.

I personally take exception to this taking the Lord's name in vain, after all apart from the usual scientific explanations and issues relating to poor land management, I recall that floods have occurred when homosexuality itself was outlawed. Pretty sure we had disease, pestilence and war. (BSE, Bird Flu and Tony Blair) as well.

This guy's a major loon. I would be alright with him voicing his opinion (albeit it's a stupid one) but he's trying to scapegoat a specific group of people which is just plain wrong.

A competency test would go against democracy, and even if it were implemented who is to say who's competent? It could be skewed in one group's favor.

I'd hate to on your parade, but where in the article was it claimed that all recent storms can be attributed to legalization of gay marriage (only a 'beset by storms') and where in the article did it say storms are a new weather phenomenon?

In any case, I highly doubt the delusions of a 73 year old man from UKIP is going to hold much sway over people. It'd be nice if you were more straight forward with your approach and would state your agenda here, beyond hinting this is representative of the whole party of course.

This i would be in favour of, totally and utterly. The argument that we can't have one due to it being undemocratic doesn't hold water actually, due to the fact we all have access to free education (in the UK specifically) when growing up, or indeed their are a variety of college courses for all levels of adults to use, so actually theirs nothing undemocratic about it really.

The Conservatives , Labour and Liberals can cover for their more incompetent ministers and others by ensuring that all public announcements go through a grid system, so only those "on message" are deemed fit to print or broadcast. This undermines democracy somewhat as unpleasant policies or incompetent ones are buried beneath the radar.

UKIP works rather differently, but the risk is that some moron will just utterly undermine the work of those who oppose the hold the EU have over its constituent nations. How would a test be discriminatory?

It would be reminiscent of the "Literacy" tests that were used in the south to disenfranchise black voters, and could likely be used in the same way i.e. to screen out opinions that the test givers want to suppress, which would be anti-democratic.

To suggest that a change to the Queen's law will bring down God's wrath is an affront to democracy, our sovereign, who is , of course the head of the Church, and is a breach of the 7th commandment.
