Default Medieval 2 Screen Format Issue

I went onto on of my sub-mods for the game and I find that the screen is now compressed and there are black bars on the sides. It is the same for all of my sub-mods and I know for sure I did not mess around with any options in the game

    or steam.

Does anyone know what could have caused this to happen and a solution to change it back to widescreen?

Check the submods' cfg files? You can open and edit them in Notepad.

There are no configuration files in any of the my submod folders, just in the main game folder. Would Medieval 2>Config>Skins>Default>default be what I'm looking for? It is the only file with height and width measurements I can find in Config.

Do you mean the medieval2.preferences.cfg? It's the main one for the game. StainlessSteel and third Age have one as I have the mods downloaed but none of the submods so those I would not know.

    default.cfg for SS.
    TATW.cfg for Third Age.

This will give you an idea of what to look for.

Thank you, I found TATW.cfg, what do I edit in there?

    You can play with these.

    Code:
    ;windowed = true
    ;movies = false
    show_banners = 0
Remove the two semicolons will make them "live" again and may change what you're after.

Sorry Irish, it didn't change the issue. I wish I could screenshot the problem but the camera zooms in and gets it in the view I would want it to be. Imagine the menu and game are widescreen except the black bars are on the sides.

What was the last submod you downloaded and played before noticing this issue?
American, French, Israeli and British government's ILLEGAL aggression against the Syrian people, without any proof for chemical attacks in Douma, and without waiting for OPCW to conduct their investigation..

A few months ago, though I only just played TATW on Wednesday and it was fine. I noticed the issue on Friday.

Have you tried setting it to widescreen in Options?

First, try changing to widescreen as Irishron suggested.

If you have steam version of M2TW, then you can also test to verify your M2TW files and see are there some missing. It is known that mods ( like TATW) can mess up M2TW original settings due to a Windows feature called User Account Control. It thinks you are making an unauthorised changes to original files.

This can be avoided if you take control of your main M2TW folder, go here and apply this step as shown in pictures:

Edit Security for your main M2TW folder.

Alright, after changing the resolutions to 1920x1080, the screen is back to its original setting, the mouse is smaller now but I don't mind. The question remains how it happened in the first place when I didn't do anything with the files or options.

Thank you Irish and Elvenkind for pointing me in the right direction.
