    Default Converting City to Castle

Does Converting a City with a high base farming or growth rate to a Castle raise the possibility of it making it to Citadel Level? What are the advantages and disadvantages of changing a Settlments type?

The farming is based on the regionspecific farming base and on the level of the farmbuilding. So there is no difference between city and castle.

If you change a city to a castle, you will lose buildings like the market, the city hall, maybe some levels of the religious buildings, etc.(This buildings provide also much pop. growing, the rate will lower after the convertion)

If you change a castle to city, you will lose the stables, bowyer...(not full list)

I guess at some point you cant change a city to castle, because the city population to big.

First of all, settlements are changed to their equivalents. Other building aren't taken into consideration.

Second, it depends what city you change to castle and vice versa.

For example, playing as HRE you want to keep Insbruck a castle, since it is an army producer on your italian front, however, you might consider Stettin a valuable trade spot in Baltic and change it to a city since it's close to Hamburg(much better castle).

In castles etc. You produce units better in both quality and quantity. Cities are your gold cows, that give you more florins through trade, farming etc. You need to balance both. Playing with only castles will make you pennyless and using only cities you won't keep up with production as well as quality of your units.

For me it depends on the faction I'm playing, but I never have more castles than cities. I tend to keep it 1:1 or 1:2(in favor of cities).

Edit: Can't believe I wrote it 5 minutes I need to go along what InsaneAbacus wrote before me as well

Getting a citadel is extremely hard because of the reduction to pop growth to players cities castles as opposed to AI's cities and castles. I suggest you cheat and add the pop that way or disband soldiers in the cities/castles to get the required pop.

1:1 (or maybe 3:2, in favor of cities) ratio is good (as mentioned above).

The only time I break this rule is with Teutonic Knights. With them I go all castles and 1 city (usually Visby, the island) just for roleplay purposes, plus it adds a little difficulty income-wise

By the time I get far south to Constantinople, Ill probably add that as my 2nd city... but, ill keep their ratio at 7-8:1 (in favor of castles).

Its brutal trying to stay in the black with finances, but I can turn out the dreaded Ritterbruders scary fast hehe.
