Old Roose is the archmaester of warcraft, and the former maester of Winterfell. He has seen many kings of Westeros in his lifetime and served five different Lords Paramount. He has served in the office of Seneschal of the Conclave many times over and was only put forward as the Grand Maester when he finally took up candidacy of many a long year. He feels that this is the best way to serve the fallen House of Stark and to restore the important role of the Citadel and the Conclave in Westeros once more. Old Roose is the first Grand Maester in over a decade.

It was writed by a scholar in the times of Gaemon Targaryen, he was at the service of the Dragonstone's Lord, and it's a chronicle about the North, it's customs, laws, rulers and everything he knew. It's fairly interesting, because shows that the first Targaryens weren't isolated in the island, and didn't lack the ambition that led them to claim the kingship, but actually were mingled in the Realm's affair, waiting their chance. A two hundred years old account about those years"

"But Maester, wasn't he dead? And I've not seen many ghosts... Anyway we would love to see a Stark again in the North, because, as maesters say, if a Stark isn't in Winterfell the next Winter will be dangerous"
