I'm confused on something. I dont know much about history, but are the "Knights Templar" a faction, or just a unit you can recruit? If there just a unit, who can recruit them?

Nice, recruiting nights templar sounds cool. Especially during the crusades.
The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him,
But because he loves what is behind him.
Maybe they are only availible during crusades, or are very, very cheap during crusades. I dunno.
The beauty of the Second Amendment is that it will not be used until they try and take it away.Staff Officer of Corporal_Hicks in the Legion of Rahl

The Knights Templer did eventually end up ruling the island of Cyprus though didnt they ? So they really could be considered a faction at some point in the game.
I used to have a quote from George S. Patton about the Russians, but I guess some might have found it offensive.
but he just said, he was talking about the Teutonic Knights, which indeed was a small faction ..up there north
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teutonic_KnightsFollowing the Golden Bull of Rimini, Grand Master Hermann von Salza and Duke Konrad I of Masovia made a joint invasion of Prussia in 1226 to Christianize the Baltic Old Prussians. The knights were then accused of cheating Polish rule and creating an independent monastic state
answering the original question, - if we want to be historically accurate - they should be recruitable like mercenaries IMO. I'm thinking, CA will put them in like an elite unit, while declaring a crusade, they will join you. But i'm just guessing here.Originally Posted by SnArF|D
