    Default Changing factional bodyguards.

How does one change the factional bodyguard of a faction? My particular focus is on the Gauls, as I want to change their Brihentin guards to Infantry bodyguards. Is there an easy way to do this? And which unit should I change it to?

Solduros. Although it could be that those guys didn't exist in all of Gaul, I don't remember exactly.

Yeah, that's why I didn't use them. Although they might be viable, I would probably have to change Casse to Rycalawre.

I can remember more or less how to change bodyguard units I think.

Go into your EB folder and open export_descr_unit.txt

Ctrl - F and search for brihentin - you'll see the entry below:

    type celtic cavalry chieftain brihentin
    dictionary celtic_cavalry_brihentin ; Gallic General's Bodyguard
    category cavalry
    class heavy
    voice_type General_1
    soldier celtic_cavalry_brihentin_remimairepos_lavotuxri_marhathegnoz, 10, 0, 1
    officer ebofficer_celtic_officer
    officer ebofficer_celtic_standardbearer
    mount heavy horse
    mount_effect elephant -4, chariot +2
    attributes sea_faring, general_unit, hide_forest, hardy, ;no_custom
    formation 1.5, 4, 3, 6, 4, square
    stat_health 1, 1
    stat_pri 5, 30, no, 0, 0, melee, simple, piercing, spear, 160 ,0.33
    stat_pri_attr ap
    stat_sec 11, 15, no, 0, 0, melee, blade, slashing, sword, 0 ,0.225
    stat_sec_attr no
    stat_pri_armour 11, 13, 2, metal
    stat_sec_armour 0, 0, flesh
    stat_heat 4
    stat_ground 0, 0, -3, -1
    stat_mental 16, disciplined, highly_trained
    stat_charge_dist 30
    stat_fire_delay 0
    stat_food 60, 300
    stat_cost 1, 2017, 0, 38, 178, 2017
    ownership gauls, scythia, slave

Delete where it says general_unit and add this to the unit you want to become the new generals bodyguard.

I'm assuming at the bottom where it says ownership 'gauls' are the Aedui and 'scythia' are the faction that became the Arverni - hence Brihentin are bodyguards for Aedui and Arverni. This may complicate things if you are setting a unit to be the new bodyguard which is owned by other factions than the Gallic factions. For instance Gallic Bodyguards are a seperate unit to recruitable Brihentin, as if you set normal Brihentin as a 'general_unit' the game will try to set it as the bodyguard for all of those factions (Romani etc). From a modding perspective I would suggest Solduros would be easiest as they are only 'owned' by by 'gauls' and 'scythia'.

    type celtic infantry solduros
    dictionary celtic_infantry_solduros ; Solduros
    category infantry
    class heavy
    voice_type General_1
    soldier celtic_infantry_arjos_rycalawre_solduros_kuarothoroi, 30, 0, 1.2
    officer ebofficer_celtic_standardbearer
    mount_effect elephant -4
    attributes sea_faring, hide_forest, hardy, general_unit <----Add this general_unit to the solduros entry
    formation 0.85, 1.2, 1.8, 2.6, 3, square
    stat_health 1, 1
    stat_pri 13, 8, no, 0, 0, melee, blade, slashing, sword, 0 ,0.225
    stat_pri_attr no
    stat_sec 18, 8, no, 0, 0, melee, simple, piercing, spear, 0 ,0.13
    stat_sec_attr light_spear
    stat_pri_armour 12, 12, 4, metal
    stat_sec_armour 0, 0, flesh
    stat_heat 5
    stat_ground 0, 0, -1, -2
    stat_mental 18, disciplined, highly_trained
    stat_charge_dist 30
    stat_fire_delay 0
    stat_food 60, 300
    stat_cost 1, 3193, 798, 80, 130, 3193
    ownership gauls, scythia, slave

Remember to ALWAYS make a backup of any file before you change and save it in case you mess up. (Especially as i've not done this for years so I might have missed something)

Wow. Thank you so much. To the Arverni I go. Have some rep.

This doesn't seem to work for the Lusotannan. Will this change the first generals bodyguards as well?

Lusotannan don't have a model for Solduros. If you want an infantry BG, you'll have to change to Ambakaro or Dosidataskeli, depending on how much over the top you wanna go.

No, no, no. I was changing them to Ambakaro. It doesn't work for Gaul either.

Don't forget that for our initial generals you'd have to change the entries in the descr_strat. Also make sure the unit you want as your bodyguard is listed before an recruitable generals in the export_descr_unit, otherwise all our family members will get the wrong ones. Ultimately the easiest way to do this, using your example, would be to add the general_unit into the abilities, then cut the Solduros entry from the file and paste it back in before the Brihentin.
