    Icon1 Mod Install help

Sorry i havent had any results on the thread search tool, but this is my problem.

i have had multiple reinstalls of med2 on my system one was done by steam (now uninstalled) i then pirated the game after i bought it on steam for modding ease, again (i have discs somewhere but couldnt find them so bought again, just to reiterate, i have bought the game twice), now i have uninstalled the pirated version again some time ago after finding the discs, so i now have kingdoms installed latest patches etc etc from disc and downloaded the patches. (whew that was long)

So now i cant install this mod as it cannot find a valid med2 installation, which im guessing is to do with me installing the disc version in a different place on my HDD that is not default C:\Games in my case. I have played this wonderful mod before a very long time ago and really wish to invade europe as the aztecs once more. I can understand the newb friendly installer but i wish there was a option to choose the directory where i want to install thus averting this issue.

Is there anything i can do bar a full uninstall of med2 from my system and then of course installing in the default path which i really dont want to do (i have all my games bar steam stuff in my Games folder and would rather keep it that way). This is the only mod i have found that has this issue.

Any help appreciated and sorry if this was mentioned earlier, my search on this thread turned up nought after multiple tries, and 16 pages of technical stuff that is mostly irrelevant is tiring to read.

EDIT: If the issue is to do with the registry, can i edit my reg to fool the installer?
The above quote is from my post here:http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...0#post13558570 Regarding the kingdoms grand campaign mod,

Just wondering if the issue is registry related due to multiple installs so im throwing out here. Is there any way to replicate the registry keys to 'fool' this mods installer or perhaps editing the installer .exe itself to look for the game where i have it installed?

Vista, Win 7/8/8.1 = logged in as Administrator and disable the UAC?
Win 7/8/8.1 = have you taken ownership of C: drive and install outside Program Files and Program Files (x86)?

After uninstalling did you delete all traces of that install including folders and run a good free registry cleaner?

Logged in as admin and disabled UAC check, yes i have installed outside of program files (and its (x86) shadow) and installed directly into C:\Games folder which i created myself.

I deleted all traces of that uninstall HOWEVER have not run a good free reg cleaner after that install, however at this point, would it benefit me to do so? for if the reg files are there surely the installer would be 'fooled' into thinking i have some sort of med2 installation? I would have thought the opposite is true in that the reg files are somewhat NOT present, and the installer is unable to find them due to this.

It would be a benefit or even a decent knowledge of regedit. CA's uninstaller does not remove registry keys, uninstaller/installer info, or folders.

Even with http://shoguntotalwar.yuku.com/topic...l-II-Total-War and a registry cleaner, I have found myself having to use regedit to finish the job on 64bit Win 7.

Ah yes i understand the viable uses of regedit but many years back on that uninstall for some reason i didnt bother. Not to mention now i am unsure of how the med2 reg entries look, I haven't been able to see anything i can recognise as CA med2 under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE - SOFTWARE, therefore i am simply assuming the entries are not there, which is why this installer is unable to recognise that i have the game installed at all.

Thats why im wondering if it is indeed possible to add them myself, i have some mild experience in regedit but never added manually anything before.

    Appreciating your help though.

EDIT: after a double check and comparison to that link you provided

    Browse to the game keys

    • [+] HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    • [+] SOFTWARE
    • [+] SEGA
    • Right click and delete any Medieval II trees

    Medieval II extra paths

    • [+] HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{C0698BDA-0D29-40EE-8570-A31106DF9AB1}
    • [+] HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\medieval2.exe

Simply does not appear to exist in my registry, IE the sega folder doesnt exist and i have checked for the extra paths too.

SECOND EDIT: Lastly med2 doesnt appear in my Add/Remove programs either, backing up my assumption that there is no reg keys installed for it on my machine, all of this im bamboozled by as i would have thought that a install from disc would have added those keys, an can only assume that something went wrong while installing to do with the reg key entries

    - The only other way around this problem i feel, is:
    1. Totally remove med2 from my system and dig those discs out for a full reinstall to see if that works
    2. Download through steam play with the files and get them to work (Id rather not steam says 2.5 days to download the game :/)
    3. Some kind soul uploads the mod folder as a .rar somewhere
    4. Someone suggest a way to edit the installer and stop it looking for my install and simply lets me choose where to install.
    5. lastly somehow manually put in the reg keys myself.

You may have to use ctrl-F in regedit and search for sega, creative assembly medieval, kingdoms, official, unofficial. Some entries on 64bit systems are in SYSWOW6432 and regedit is the only way from here to them.
Also in C:\Program Files (x86)\InstallShield Installation Information\*. you can open each setup.ini in Notepad and delete any that are Medieval2 or the four Kingdoms campaigns.

Possible a clean install will help and these steps will also be part of that clean install. The way the game engine was written on Visual studio 2005, with earlier versions of Shogun1, Medieval1, and rome1 intermingled, and the way Microsoft has written their windows.exe since, this game takes on a mind of its own.
