So Dennis Rodman has been hanging out with his dear friend, the Fat...I mean Great General Kim Jung Un. Including singing him happy birthday and being a willing part of his Propaganda machine.

So the question comes out: is Dennis Rodman an idiotic douchebag trying to use the controversy to gain fame at the cost of empowering a frankly evil man, or is he a naive imbecile who truly believes he is doing the right thing despite having no knowledge of the issues and actually contributing to the problem by strengthening the Kim family?

Works both ways. Both are B-listers, using each other to make the headlines.

I'm not one to moralise that much about who hangs out with who, but you really have to be one cold mofo to venerate someone like Marshall Staypuff - who was even prepared to have his own uncle and other generals put naked into a cage and ripped to shreds by 120 angry starving dogs. And keeps about a million people in gulags for the crime of being related to someone who was a political criminal. I understand that our leaders have to deal with such people and be pleasant when they want to say (or may want to say) what contemptible POS' they are, but Rodman or any private citizen whether B-lister or not, hanging out with both an enemy of the USA and someone who is one of the most morally repugnant human beings you could think of. The only reason I'd like to see him is to get close enough to choke him out.

When people asked him about it he said 'But it's not my problem.' Cold. I suppose there is a case for engaging with totalitarian regimes through sport to build bridges, but, his over the top hero worship for someone who is just such scum shouldn't happen.

Small point of clarification: there is absolutely no evidence this was the case. All the reliable information sources point to his uncle being shot either by a MG or an AA gun.

The story about the dogs originally came from a Hong Kong based paper known for exaggeration and lousy fact checking. No news source that actually has good access to information coming out of the DPRK has touched the dog story.

Every video I see of the current duke of North Korea always has him holding some blueprint and a pencil standing with some aides and army officials pointing off away from the camera, looking likes hes planning some sprawling metropolis.

Theirs a difference between talking to people you unfortunately need, as a head of state, ambassador etc, and going as a private citizen to take money off a complete loon.

Indeed, the problem with that scene is a very different one. Obama should never have bowed to a despot, least of all to the Saoudi king. He made a fool of himself.

As for Rodman, he went to North Korea on his own accord (though maybe he is the president of the nation of idiot sportsmen or something like that...).
At least it is nice for the North Korean Basketball players to be able to meet, and play against, some colleagues from abroad.

That's probably why the game was officially a draw. Neither side felt the need to shoot/be shot for winning and/or losing. And I imagine shame is a very prevalent notion in Korea (uninformed opinion, but shame is a big deal in many Asian cultures), so Kim Jong Un would lose face if he had to explain a defeat. And he doesn't seem like the sort of guy who doesn't mind a bit of emberassment.

Indeed. Rodman was representing Rodman. Obama was representing whole country. Rodman did a silly stunt with some dictator, and Obama embarrassed and dishonored his whole country, by bowing down to man responsible for one of the most inhumane regimes on the planet. Its like if British PM in Munich conference would kiss Hitler's feet or something.
