    Indeed.

    And it was the perfect fix once AI became incapable of fighting, when I killed all his infantry or burnt down his rams and towers, and of course destroyed the siege engines. So instead of becoming braindead, sitting idly on the land without doing anything, and in turn making the battle unending and breaking the game completely, it safely retreated back with what was left of the army, ending the battle and creating a draw or accepting defeat depending on situation.

    Hmm the first battle was OK the AI did move multiply ladders to the walls but in the second battle the AI sending one ladder forward unsupported was rather pointless, it routed before it even got a foot on the wall.

    The other thing your not defending your walls that well, the AI is trying to capture the Gate with ladders if you stop those units (with ladders) the AI has no other choice then to send the rest of the army to torch the gate, not really that much of a tactical puzzle for the player.

    There seems to be a simple script that sends any AI unit that is attached to a ladder forward even if it is suicide and once that fails the main army will attempt to torch the gate. This is just basic stuff and its mind boggling that it took CA this long to just get the ladders to the wall but there seems to be little logic to what the AI is trying to achieve, in the second battle the AI had no chance whatsoever it should never even have attacked.

    And off subject, the settlements themselves are horrible, in RTW1 the attacker was forced into pathways and corridors and could be under constant attack from towers as it made its way to the square, a city was a maze designed in such a way as to be defensible but in RTW2 CA have simply added a few generic building types to a field surrounded it with a wall and called it a siege battle, the AI will even line its army up once its inside as if it is a field battle, sorry but I think this is just your typical ETW type siege battle with added lipstick.

    1st they bring 4 ladders. yes they always do CA gives them free ladders.
    2nd the ladders have a free pathfinding no obstacles thats why they get too the walls.

    The second battle was cig which I agree why other people were angry in that battle they only had one ladder which makes no sense to me I aldo like how I convertered the gaul settlement to roman.

    Just tried a recent siege to see if it was any better. I''ve been avoiding them like the plague and autoresolving for so long its become common practice. I set up a custom game with myself and an allied ai attacking an enemy city. Now on the whole the ai did ok and actually got the ram to the gates and smashed them down. It also managed to take the walls with towers and actually got off the walls into the city in fair order. Unfortunately I can still see major issues everywhere and one of them is pathfinding problems.

    At two places my own siege towers refused to move having become stuck on environmental props, namely a few rocks and a small building that must have had collision detection boxes the size of football fields. Eventually after much clicking I got them to move back and around it. At one point my ram that was taking down the other gate became stuck after breaching the gate and the only solution was to drop it which lead to my force running through it like it wasn't there.

    I think perhaps if CA reduced the amount of battlefield clutter maybe some of these issues could be avoided, sure it looks nice but if it screws up the ai actually moving properly it might as well be gone. Regardless this is much better than it was at release but its still got a long way to go yet.

    The pathfinding is better then in empire or med 2 and the cig is were they only bring one ladder

    no it isn't but finally you agree that the game is at least partially broken. Half the game sieges are barbarian sieges so at least 50% of it is broken by your own words

    That is simply not true in the case of Medieval II. The pathfinding of that game is at least 50 times better than that of Rome II, or the Warscape engine.

    What pathfinding are you talking about no percent I say were the segies lack is 20 percent.

    Med 2 was my favorite tw but no rome 2 total war pathfinding is better

    In M2TW ai could assault porperly settlements with 3 sets of walls/gates. In Rome2 ai can barely assault settlements with one set of walls/gates. What you are saying is not true at all.

    Yep. Not at all. You guys are just playing ring around the rosey here. If someone wants to think this game has great sieges, i'm not sure what anyone can do to convince them otherwise. I had more satisfying sieges in a gem defense flash game last night than I've had in Rome II so far. It had better pathfinding too.

    In M2TW the AI will breach your first wall, bring ladders and rams through into the second wall and breach that too. Then it will send units to retrieve the old ladders and rams, and bring them through to take your third wall. By comparison Rome II's AI is a crackhead.

    Hm yes indeed, and when breaking down your wall with a catapult, did it bring it's towers too to the second ring? I can't remember but I think it did.
    I'd like to see the RTW2 AI attack a three tier settlement, once the Battlemap editor is released (I suppose one will be released)

    in med 2 once they broke down the gates they rushed the gate house and the walls in rome 2 they do this also but cig in were they only bring one ladder and instead of 4 when they first seige the settelement
