The game sucks, no doubt. But the sieges for me, are a minor problem.
Even if they were excellent, how many we'd play without auto resolver? I barley play a siege.I never like it.Not even when CA did games seriously.
The history lesson is on topic the seige ai is better then empire

I have never seen that on empire the segie ai on rome two is just like med 2 and the ai is very perfect

horrible in the bigger part of cases. For every decent siege you play, you get many Others bugged and irritating. And we must also face the performance issue since this game still runs worst than shogun 2 and with a fake AA. I've spent some time preparing post to explain siege AI failure in official CA, and opening a thread well supported with more than 8000 visitors: have you seen any sort of CA reply there? no. have you seen any sort of sign demostranting CA is concretely trying to resolve what we show them? it seemed yes in a first time but on the long period I've only the impression they're outnumbered by too many bugs to fix something concretely. Fixes spammed all around make AI not completely dead, but at last the core of the bug seems really untouched.
What can we do now? I think, we, players have made a lot and I'm not sure if this game deserved all this. We can only chose how many time to give to this game: mine now is no more so big. Just one hour if lucky, or some minutes in the evening, tired by my job and tired that other people did not made their job in a good way.
good luck
I just played med 2 it my favorite total war and the rome 2 seige ai is just like that the ai has ladders use the ladders has a ram usees the ram and siege towers
And? For how long does it use ladders, then? Yep, the AI does use ladders, and rams too. But as soon as the unit carrying ladders is defeated (IF it manages to even get to the walls without getting stuck, and without half unit running away to breaches), it simply resorts to the same old stupid gate burning. And why does the AI units stand and watch while sending units one-by-one to die off?
This is nothing close to Medieval II. AI in that game at least knew how to properly use ladders and rams, and how to climb up in force...to say it is close to Rome II proves that one who is saying that has no idea about it.

You gotta being kidding. Comparing Med2 AI to Rome2 AI is like comparing Ferrari to a broken vespa!
Med2 AI knew how to BUILD rams. Yes, imagine that! It actually took time to BUILD GEAR AS NEEDED! R2 AI just grabs the scripted 4 ladders, rushes them towards the wall and once fight on the walls is over, it goes to pick up the super torches.
Nobody, absolutely NOBODY but units carrying those ladders will even consider touching them.
I just had one siege where AI attacked me. 4 ladders, check. Send ladders to wall, check. Let your troops die horribly outnumbered, check. Now send troops to start torching the gates, check., they killed all spearmen, check. Gate 99% burned, remaining cavalry, killer dogs and skirmishers stand around wondering what to do while my onagers turn them slowly to paste until they run away.
Medi2 AI would be shamed of such performance.

Guys, let's face it: broken or not sieges are sound, but not only problem in R2TW and no amount of our desire for it to be wonderful game will make it happen.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6hFg...ature=youtu.be another video to show you ai is better
Well thanks for posting the Video that does seem a little better but the AI appears to be only marginally better then the AI in ETW there really is no difference both are extremly confused with walls and gates. its certainly nothing like the AI in RTW1.
Anyhow thanks for going to the trouble of posting your video.
no trouble at all i like posting youtube videos yea the seige ai expect for the part when their genreal tried to rush my man was the only bad part i saw in the video
Nice video, although you about twist my neck off flipping the camera around so much. There is another video posted earlier in this thread that confirms that the AI has a better go at the more 'normal' straight walls of the 'civilized' cultures, so this confirms that. However, the overall behavior is still much less 'urgent', shall we say, than it was in Rome1. You have three units trying to do something....climb a ladder, a tower, or knock down the gate...while the whole AI army sits in the background playing cards and watching TV. It's like the General sees one unit route and then draws straws to see which unit goes next to 'attack' the walls with something.
I'll grant the AI is 'better' than in previous patches....but better than what? It is not better than RTW1 or M2TW. It 'seems' to use equipment better, but overall it is inept and currently set up to lose every siege with this 'one unit at a time' approach. You should note that the whole AI army was defeated, essentially, by tower archers and the few men you put on the wall....whilst you pulled your army back from the gates. That's pretty lame, honestly. Not that it's your fault or would be the player's fault....it's just that sieges are not a challenge at all.

Let's imagine how AI could be worse than it was before...
Only way for them to do that is if they failed at using torches too! And at least in my battle they eventually did even that! 1%...
One magic torch and they could have tried to rush my city. Or, you know, they could have retreated. Noo... We stand here looking at pretty big rocks in the air!
I think I killed more of my own men than AI in that battle... Onagers fired few shots bit too low.

I've successfully defended a city against overwhelming odds solely because most of the enemy troops got stuck. I've seen archers stand beneath a city wall and pelt it with arrows trying to hit a unit on the top; infantry standing next to a tower, behind the walls, slowly whittled away by arrow fire; a whole army with reinforcements trying and failing to torch the gate.
The siege AI in RTW was far from ideal - when pathfinding glitched out an entire enemy army could stand in front of the walls until they ran out of time, and it happened rarely but regularly. M2TW siege AI was basically Rome's AI with some improvements and fixes, so such things hardly happened at all. But this is way worse, even though it's been... 8 years, am I right?
I have seen no improvement in the siege AI, but I have also yet to be sieged in a walled city by the AI since the patch. You see, the AI refuses to attack you unless you are vastly outnumbered. This might be preferably to an AI that throws 2 units at your 10, but since it cannot even muster the capability to take you on in a 1v1 ratio, AI siege attacks are rare for me -- because unlike the AI, my forces are not constantly making magic boats and sailing around the sea, they are defending cities and trying to engage the enemy on the field.
