Alright, first, learn to use the movie cam, you wont have the annoying UI. Second, dont have ut jump around so much. And third, this was decent for a first attempt.

Do I need version 1.3 or can I use 1.5 to use movie cam? The one I have on google video (the first one) has over 700 views and I put it up a two weeks ago.

You would need the 1.2 version and up (1.3 and 1.5)

I think you have the right idea, but as someone already said, if you use the rtw movie cam, you'll get more professional results. In order to use the movie cam you need RTW 1.2. Unfortunately, the movie cam is broken in 1.3 and 1.5.

Here, look at this video I made a while ago for Lt's SPQR mod.

    what does render mean?

You can use the movie_cam in any version of RTW. The only thing you can't do in a version other than 1.2 is save your game via TGA's. Personally, I wouldn't chose to use that save method anyway.

They do advise you use 1.2 version when using movie_cam, however most things appear to work in other versions.

Render means what settings you want to save your video with. Changing the picture quality, size, fps etc etc.

to much camera movement. Still pretty decent.

Look, the only way you can really use the movie_cam the way it's meant to be used is through rendering. In 1.3 and 1.5 CA messed something up so the movie_cam doesn't actually render the video.

Rendering basically means that the game takes your replay and the related camera path you set for it and then replays the replay while "taking pictures". The game takes these pictures based on 30 frames per 1 second of video. So for every 1 second of video, you get 30 pictures. Naturally, if you want to render a 10 minute replay, it will take quite a long time (hours) and will take a lot of space (many gigs). The good thing about the render function is that you can set your graphics on absolute maximum so that your rendered video will show the game at it's best.

After all the tga files have been rendered, you must then use a video converter of sorts such as Virtualdub, to connect all those images together inorder to form an avi video file.

    Read this guide:

But like I said, the movie_cam basically doesn't work in 1.3 and 1.5, because it doesn't render.

    Why didn't CA fix this?

Because it's not really part of the game. They are not really responsible for it. It's just an added extra they included in 1.2, but then messed it up in 1.3 and 1.5.

I hear the movie_cam works fine in BI, but I haven't had time to test it out myself. :hmmm:

Interesting. But that makes since. Still, they should've of fixed it but I'm still glad they made this awesome game and did a good job on it.
