    Default Divide and Conquer "Please select an item from the list"?

    I just installed the Divide and Conquer sub mod with Patch 1.1 and I was able to start a campaign just to take a look at the map. I deleted that campaign after a couple minutes and when I went to really start one the message "Please select an item from the list" came up when I select the Third Age Campaign button. Why does this come up? Custom, Quick, and Historical Battles also don't work. I edited desc_strat and descr_strat_prefire to change the end date from 3080 to 99999 (I like long campaigns ), but I changed them back to 3080 so that shouldn't be the problem. Anyone have any solutions?

    For making edits in DAC files you need to use Notepad++, and not Notepad or some other text editor.

    Hmm, stopped working again. I was able to get past the "Please select an item from the list" once by using Notepad++ Version 6.5.3 on the files, but when I was looking through the factions the game closed itself. I tried to go back but the message just comes up again. Weird, no sure why it would only work one time. Any other solutions?

    Re-installed TATW and DaC (for about the 5th time this week ) and everything works fine now. I guess I'll have to stick to the 500 turn campaign.

    Well, FIRST make a backup of the files you are about to edit with Notepad++ just in case you screw up.
    descr_strat.txt file is the one you need to edit, also, delete map.rwm file in M2TW/mods/ Folder where DAC is installed / data/ world / maps/ base folder.

    I can answer this: (even though its old - still VERY relevant) - I read in another post (couldn't find the link sorry but remember it was Gigantus who deserves credit)

    When editing descr_strat in Notepad++:
    1) Go up top to "Settings"
    2) Click "Preferences..." from the drop-down menu
    3) Click "New Document" in the side-directory
    4) Look in the "Encoding" Dialogue Box - ENSURE "ANSI" is SELECTED!!!

    - honestly idk precisely what this all means - but it has something to do with when using Notepad++, the game saving your descr_strat file in a format that is unreadable - selecting ANSI makes that readable.
