    Default Battlestar Galactica

Hey guys, I just want to say that I love this show. I only recently was made aware of this show and I am hooked!!!. I only saw the first episodes like 3 weeks ago. My brother had seen a episode of it on Space Channel and he liked it, so he decided to rent the first season to check how it is. He loved it and started renting the other discs of season one then went to two. I watched it too later when I saw him watching it, saw a few scense and thought "wow this show has something!". So now I have seen all the episodes and the webisodes, and I can't wait till the new season starts on Saturday. (Friday for the U.S.A)

The people i really care about in the show is mostly Boomer and Helo, whats up with those two i dont get it, cause you know. And having Boomer's baby taken from her sucked i feel bad. O well lets see how season 3 starts out!!, its gonna be awsome!!!!.

The Cylons should say 'By your command' more often. They only did it once, at the end of the pilot, and I miss it greatly. And there should be an Imperious Leader too.

I think BSG is possibly the greatest drama/action show ever produced and its sci-fi oriented for an added bonus!

Sooooo many people have recommended this show to me, and when I saw some of the trailers I thought I'd really enjoy it, but I just cannot get around the "US Navy in space" theme.
why couldn't they come up with something a bit more original? The original 70's show may have been extremely kitsch, but at least it tried to be a bit different.
Saying that, Its a well produced show, and I can see why people rave about it. I guess my rampant Anti-americanism is getting in the way of my enjoyment of it.

I'm a SF buff as they come pretty much watching everything however trashy it might be (I even watched Andromeda and Cleopatra 2525, yeah I need a life) however let's not kid ourselves: The original BS series was kitch because it was cliche. We have some pseudo-Greek Egyptian religion, a Moses like leader bringing his people through the desert. It was not original, just state of the art back then.

The new BS concentrates on currently demanded aspects, more drama more charakter interaction (with charakters being fundamentally flawed) and harder military action and harsher storylines with some real impact on stories. If you see season 2 and the new Pegasus story arc compared to the original series you see the different approach (I mean you are running around in the milkyway with a single warship, by sheer luck find another one but still you allow its captain to go his own personal vendetta instead of aquiring it for your fleet with all means necessary?!?). The original series had one episode with the potential of doubling the fleet's military capability and use it for just a 45 minute arc, in the new series the potential is used to much more effect to help alter the basic plot.

BS:2003 is not so much a remake as a new series inspired by the potential of the original (which often wasted potential like much of SF series do up to today)

The original BSG was totally flawed... one dimensional characters, ropy effects, dodgy scripting etc etc, but it managed to avoid (for the most part) the "Americanisation" of the universe it was set in. Yes, the exodus-like story was a total cliche, but it was unashamed in its cliched-ness(?)
Correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't a large part of the new show's storyline based around fear of "the enemy within", and how the cylons (read: Muslims) can look like humans to blend in, and then carry out terrorist attacks?
Isn't that a cliche in itself, considering that all they have done is basically use the current fascination with Suicide bombers and the long standing American fixation with the end of the world, then thrown in a bit of good ol' Patriotic pro-militarism and people lap it up.
Is it too much to ask for some originality these days?

Saying that though, the space battles are quite cool.

Oh well, just saw the season 3 premiere and I think I never was blown away more by a tv series. The originality you demand lies in this series as it constantly reverses the clichés you're seeing. Good cylons bad cylons, good humans, bad humans, cylons doing heroic stuff to save people, humans doing heroic stuff to save people, humans murdering people, cylons murdering people, and everyone has good reason to do it.

I really like how all charakters lept forward with the time jump at the end of season 2 (in most series this would come off artificials but here it is used to change the charakters significantly compared to the seasons before, old lovers parting marrying with others, losing their edge gaining their edge, etc.)

I particularly liked how the female pilot who came off as a real a@@ as wanna-be competitor with Starbuck now indeed is CAG of the much reduced squadron.

And a Caucasian guy taking on a suicide belt had quite an erie feel to it, I don't think we Westerns can imagine us behaving that way.

    Well, loved it.

Now, that sounds infinitly more interesting to me. Perhaps I judged this show to quickly after all.
I think i'll check out this series whenever it makes it to the UK (anyone know when that might be?) and then make a point of watching the previous series, hopefully in a new light.

Apparently (read: according to Wikipedia) Sky One holds the rights to first broadcast in the UK, having contributed to financing the mini-series and first season. And they in their wisdom have determined that Season 3 will not be broadcast until "early 2007" So it would seem that this time it's the Brits who will have to explore other means to see it anytime soon.

I have nothing to add to the existing comments about the show itself, it is the finest sci-fi series of recent years IMO. Although the "realistic" approach they've taken (documentary-style camera, modelling Galactica on an aircraft-carrier etc.) isn't for everyone.

Yes, I am a big fan of Edward James Olmos. The new series just rocks. I love the 3 part opening miniseries where the Cyclons appear after years in space (looking like humans), and nuke Caprica back into the stone-age. The effects are graphic and overwhelming. That being said, the series is somewhat melodramatic, with extended periods of interpersonal interaction. Almost soap-opera like development of characters and mental conflicts. There are a few bright spots..."The Resurrection Ship", parts 1 and 2. Lots of action. "Scar" , great Viper versus Cylon Raider footage. Occasional flashes of brilliance in these regards.

Im somewhat confused on the 8 part (so far), online previews (part 9 out today at noon). Seems like we will be subjected to more "interpersonal conflict" this season. I see little hint, if any, of any action sequences. But I will stand corrected if they do occur.

And who is hotter than Tricia Helfer and Grace Park? Hopefully that IS the future of robotics. I can just see and hear them in my head.........................

I dont really get what people like so much in this show ? i watched the first season 5 month's ago and i didnt really impress me that much, sure its a step up for the scifi genre but its not exactly really revolutionary stuff. Id much rather watch Farscape then BSG.
I find the Space battle's to be really weak, its just a case of Superhero Dilema's where a Viper pilot can wipe out squadron's of cylon fighter's single handedly especially that girl starbuck she just press'es the trigger and 2-3 cylon's get blown away eachtime everytime.

Oh, God, man...those rubber-aliens in Farscape...that cheesy Saturday-afternoon kids-show dialogue...Jesus wept. You really do prefer that to the new BSG? I guess it takes all sorts.

As for Starbuck's skill - she's their top fighter ace. In WW2 there were German aces with over 400 kills by the end of the war.

It's based on the Post-9/11 world, not just "the unseen enemy/enemy within", but also such issues as civil liberties vs. security, religious hate/fanaticism, and the constant state of flux and uncertainty that are apart of the times we live in (hell, they even threw in a little take on abortion vs. continued survival, which is actually ahead of it's time). If you don't see any of these issues being brought up in Neo-BSG I suggest you watch some of their episodes again.

The very concept behind the Science-Fiction genre after all is to make a social commentary on the real and present world in a fictional and future setting.

That said, the Sci-Fi channel released a the 13 minute Act I of the 3rd Season's first episode a few days ago, this season is gonna be GOOD. Don't know if it's availible to anyone outside the US though. Click on the Battle Galactica: Full Episode and More... tab and scroll down and click on the other tab that says First Look in order to watch it.
